odd buttons at base of stem? (pictures)
    #1285450 - 02/06/03 12:52 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

can anyone tell me what's going on here?

blueing is a result of being picked approx 20 minutes before this photo. the casing next to this one was recently infected with verticillium, but I can't find anything in TMC that refers to pins on the stem.

thanks in advance!

Now don't quote me on this because I don't have any true knowledge on this.

I would imagine that it is perfectly normal. Sure it isn't common but I would venture to guess that it isn't harmful. You figure anywhere you have mycellium you can have pins.

Does the pic on the right show rust colored pigment at the base of the stem?

If so, your fruits could be contaminated w/ verticillium. This virus causes strange growths or growing patterns on fruits. Rust colored spots at the base of the stem is indicative of verticillium.

Read this post.

Silly Silly Joshua

He said in his post that he had indeed been recently infected with verticillium.
