so i had to yeast infected, alcohol smelling casings that failed so i broke them up and buried them on opposite ends of my flower bed... one side got attacked by ants within the first week and i'm guessing stole all of my myc..., on the other side though i noticed some myc had started peeking through the surface and followed it to find 5 or 6 little mushies... i've heard good things about B+ strains outside so i got super excited... anyway i went out earlier and noticed a million and a half slugs in my patch and they had eaten all but ont that a little bastard was munching on when i was checking them... so i went inside and got the salt, put all of the slugs, i think there were 22 i counted, and covered them in salt and watched them fizzle... i felt mildly better afterward but had to pick the munched one far before its time... but i did circle my patch with broken egg shells and since i'm in the middle of a town i decided that electrified wires would have probably caused a bit of attention... i hope it works though...

Oh.. that sucks. That's the thing about living in a moist climate. I worry about this as I have a lot of slugs here as well. They are always eating up my flowers. What I'm going to try to do is put my spent and failed substrates in this large pedestal type planter thing in my back yard and line the rim with salt. I'm not sure what else to do, as the slugs will probably attack anything I put directly in the ground. I do have some slug pellets, but I'm not sure if this will effect the myc growing etc.
The bastards even like cat food! I woke up in the middle of the night last summer and came down to find a couple of massive slugs munching away. They were coming in under my back door which is right next to the cat bowl. Yuck!

Down with the slugs!!

I save all my eggshells, break 'em up and scatter them around my courgettes. Keeps the slimy creeps off without poisoning the earth.

I pour a berm of powdered Ivory soap around my garden plants to keep slugs away- it adds nitrogen and sulphur to the soil as it breaks down. I find most ants to be very helpful in gardening endeavors, but if you want them gone boil a good amount of tobacco in water and spray the extract. You can even mix the soap and tobacco extract to spray- which keeps just about any pest out of any crop.

Like it, like it a lot. I'd forgotten about using tobacco extract as a pesticide.
