Can I use *spent* dung to spawn on some compost?
    #1285863 - 02/06/03 04:56 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hello All,

Can I use some of my colonized poo to spawn on some compost? After the first flush ofcourse:)

Then could I keep doing this after each 1st flush?  If not, how come?

Thanks

U can sometimes it works most of the time it fails.
I did it last night actually because i had some compost sitting here wasting and my rye is still around 5-6 days off.

I usually do 3-4 that way atleast one or two will make it. There is exceptions to the rule though and all of them have worked b4.

I don't have the cleanest place to work so I use a oven teck. Crank that bastard up hot and then when it gets warm open it and work on the door. Some people say 350 or so but my oven is in a cold ass shop or the 1 in my bacement both r very cold. I just put them up on broil and it gets really hot.

you can, but your spent substrate has to be free of any contams (including those that are not yet noticable) and senescence tends to become a problem after a while.

If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

i think after the myc has changed into fruiting mode it's not really a good idea to use it as spawn...but this doesn't mean that people haven't had success doing it.

Well what if I did it just like this!! To make sure mycelium is still in growth phase while keeping contams in the substrate down to zero!!

Alright I spawn grain on horse poo... let that colonize... then BEFORE I case it and turn conditions to pinning and fruiting I take a chunk of the colonized poo and spawned it on some compost or horse poo and since it still hasn't had it's 1st flush there is most likely a really low risk of contaming your "2nd generation" spawning.

I then fruit the first one, then by the time it's flushed once or twice the other one would be ready to start pinning! I would then try using that 2nd colonized spawning to begin a 3rd one... that is if it could go that long without contaming! But even if I could do this to get a 2nd generation of colonized poo/compost from the 1st one it woudl maximize yields in a short period of time wouldn't it?

Peace
