I have probably done it, but petulance has nothing to do with skepticism, now does it?

Most threads are of the 'Dude, I had a thought!' variety - and hence the lo-brow humor. :spliff: If someone actually put thought into a thread, it might turn into a decent discussion.

just because posters are not educated in the structures of philosophical dickswinging doesn't mean they didn't put thought into it.

You seem to have a grudge against those who do not share your views.

Nope. Not at all. In fact, if you asked me, I don't think I'd have any views.

What approach would you suggest?

The rational approach. For example Middleman dismisses the ideas in a book I've recommended to him. He even said he'd read it if I watched a video which I did. Then he said it was a silly book but maybe someday he'd look at it. The rational approach looks at everything and then makes that best guess.

A skeptic looks for what's wrong in the story. For example if I said, "I have a boat, lets sail to Hawaii", a skeptic would look at my boat:

and would see that we would not make it to Hawaii in my 'boat'.

A true believer would hop right in without any questions, because it is a boat after all.

But if your always looking for what's wrong in the story, do you ever look at what's right in the story? Maybe there's just a small hole in the boat, in that case patch that sucker up!

So IMO you got to look for whats wrong and for what's right in the story. And when someone flies over your boat in a jet, just remember there's a dude in a space station, and probably raelians who laugh at the space station.

Aliens don't laugh. They have no sense of humor.
