Forcing the veil to break...?
    #1283421 - 02/06/03 02:54 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Hi folks. I've run into an unusual problem with my fruit.. it's gotten too damn big! It's near the top of the terrarium (within about 2-3cm I'd say) and shows almost no signs of slowing down. Worse yet, the veil hasn't broken and I need a sporeprint to continue my mushroom endeavours. Is there any way of forcing this to occur??

Well that's a relief. I'll just let it go then.. for those wondering, a pic of the situation can be found in my grow log.. (/shameless plug

Sadly it didn't turn out so simple.  :frown:

The mushroom started to push on the top of the terrarium, and in doing so, has managed to partially 'uproot' itself. Again, I already mentioned this on my grow log. Any suggestions people? I'm fairly worried that if I leave it there now it will rot and contam

Yeah I agree with vatoloco.

Once its that big, humidity is not much of a factor.

Wow, looks like somebody took my advise finally. Seedling/clone domes and trays are great I have advised for years about this and finally somebody used them. Only problem is sometimes they are too short and some strains grow too tall but like peoplle said they will bend or just grow around the shape there in. So they will be fine take prints even if they deform they will be fine the deformation is in the formation of the fruit not the genetics. So let them bend and do there own thing.

if you can, replace your terrarium lid, with a see-through plastic or saran wrap or cling film. It will push against it, all my lids are plastic of some sort

vatoloco - yeah, I know, I kept wondering how this has been my "worst" problem yet. Ah well..

As far as the 'bending' goes.. sadly it didn't just bend. Somehow the pressure from pushing up on the ceiling of the dome managed to push the bottom of the fruit halfway out of the soil. I figured it would prolly contam so I plucked it. Ah well.

I brought it into the bathroom to clean it off, getting rid of the soil on the 'roots' and what have you.. and then a bizarre urge overcame me.

I ate the damn thing.

Problem solved! Though I'm rather tired now.. ah well. It was a nice body buzz, definitely better than what I was expecting from one single fruit. I just checked this morning, and 3 other fruits are forming their veils and have curved around enough that 'bumping the ceiling' may not be a  problem. Here's hoping. In any case, I'm getting a print one way or another..

I always duct tape my humidity domes because they allow too many contams to float over my casing layer. also it may have gave that mushie some support but Im with everyone on that you should pick it. Becareful with that exposed spot in your casing layer because it doesnt look like you have taped your dome and trich loves to find its home in little places like that.
