pos. pressure glove box question
    #1281765 - 02/05/03 11:34 AM (20 years, 11 months ago)

So, if I am trying to build a positive pressure glove box and want to wire a computer fan with a HEPA filter to an extension cord, how would i go about the wiring exactly, assuming a 3 pin or 4 pin fan -- are there 2 hots, 1 neutral? 1 hot, 1 neutral, 1 ground? I have wired some switches/conduit before, but I have only hooked up my fan to the power supply  Thanks people.

a computer fan is a 12v DC system....you have a 2 wire hook up unless it's a variable speed fan....if using a Computer power supply, the yellow lead should go to the red wire on the fan and a black lead to the black wire on the fan.

go to goodwill, and look for a power supply with 12v DC output .the red wire goes to +, and the black wire goes to - . if you have a yellow or orange wire on the fan, it's for 5v .
but, why not use an aquarium pump with an inline filter, then you don't have to f**k with wireing it . :smirk:

A small computer fan will probably NOT supply enough air pressure to your HEPA filter. You need a fan with higher output to supply positive pressure to your glove box (or laminar flow hood that you are proposing).
