I made a big mistake on my cardboard culture - advice needed

So I woke up this morning and immediately went to my new cardboard cultures I started on 6-23 to make sure they had enough moisture. I started 2 of them a week ago, and they have both started populating the cardboard at a rapid rate. These were from stem butts from the summer psilocybe cyanescens patch I posted about recently @ http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12771709. That makes this all that much more disappointing. Anyhow, when I reached for my spray bottle to give them a mist, I accidentally grabbed the wrong spray bottle. The one I started spraying with happened to be my dog's flea and tick spray. I gave them only 2 quick mists before I caught the smell and stopped. I went directly to the sink and took them from their tupperware bin, at which point I washed out the container and also tried to soak up the flea spray from the cardboard with paper towels. Currently, they are back in the container with a fresh mist (of water) sprayed on them. Here's where I could use some input...... If they do continue to grow, are they worth trying to maintain? Can insecticide affect the genetics? What are some possible other outcomes?
I fully expect lots of facepalms, dopey icons, and possibly even some of the questionable pictures of people with mental disabilities that some of you enjoy. Please, have at it as I'm sure I deserve it.

I think the fruiting body basically performs the additional task of picking up and storing pollution in the substrate, but it doesn't sound like you did much. Apart from that immense help I don't know about cultivation. About the genetics you'd probably have to wait and see.

Your culture will survive and no, future fruitbodies will not be contaminated with toxic substances. Pay more attention in the future is all I can say.
