Too much fanning?
    #1282344 - 02/05/03 02:28 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Can you over fan a casing? Does it need a little CO2 or is it the more O2 the better?

co2 is a good thing but when you fan your not exactly pushing pure o2 across it. yes you can overfan. you will create more work for yourself in 2 ways. 1. you will be fanning more and 2. you will have to mist more to correct for all the drying you will be doing. you don't want your casing to dry out. also co2 buildup seems to be good (as long as it is removed a few times a day). this hobby is enough work as it is, why make more for yourself?

I enjoy the work, i enjoy the hobby i say you fan away as long as your casing isnt drying out and if it does dump some water on it then tilt it 70 degrees and pour out the excess. It works for me

That is so true..and a point that is often overlooked...But O2 is also a good thing..

You must have been reading my mind I was going to edit my post and say that although they are both good.. each of them serve their purpose. But from my experience it sems that things work better when O2 takes the majority.

Hey everyone, this is an observation I've made. I use sterilite containers as terrariums. The lids on those boxes don't seal up totally. Could there be enough gas exchange coming in through there to eliminate the need for fanning? Wouldn't a lack of 02 in the terrarium cause it to bring it in from outside? I still fan mine 2-3 times a day just to be sure, but how much air do you think gets through the cracks in these things?

The C02 that is produces by the mushrooms pinning is heavier then the oxygen in the terrium so it supposedly lays on the casing layer so air exchange threw the lid of a rubbermaid wouldnt do anything to remove the C02 build up so fanning is neccasary to have better fruits.

You can't really overfan. Although there's no point in fanning more than three times a day, so you are just wasting your time. Your shrooms won't grow any bigger.
