well, its been almost a month since ive started some new cakes, 5 are going pretty strong with mycelium growth (id say around 75%-80% colonized), while another 5 are showing absolutely no signs of colonization. all of the cakes were prepared at the exact same time, the exact same way. sterilized at the exact same time for the same amount of time, left to cool for the exact amount of time and then inoculated at the same time. there are absolutely no differences in them except for that 5 of the cakes just arnt colonizing, theres just no mycelium growing on them. they are all being stored in the same container, bah! i just dont understand why if they have all had the exact same thing done to them as the other 5 cakes why these other 5 wont get their asses going!! any ideas as to whats going on here? thanks, .cel.

If u mixed all the stuff up in one big bowl the flour tends to goto the bottom and make the substrates of each jar differnt when filling.
If thats not the case maybe u got some bacterial contam that stoped the myc from growing. open 1 and u know from the smell.

did you flame sterizlie the tip of the needle after each jar? could be a bad syringe, or unsterile syringe

Did you sterilzie in a pot of boiling water? Maybe the jars on the bottom dried out.

everything was mixed in one bowl yes, but i really, really mixed everything up, broke up all the chunks, ect. syringe was flame sterilized and yes the jars were sterilized in a pot of poiling water not a pc.

wow, tons of contradicting and/or useless suggestions on this one .. heh, i've mixed my brown rice + vermiculite in one big bowl many many times. i usually do a dozen jars at a time and the substrate for the whole thing gets mixed in one big bowl. never had a problem. don't listen to people telling you to mix each jar separately. do you have any idea how long that would take? a dozen jars could easily take you 2hrs+ to do that way.
anyway, here are some of my guesses as to why you're not getting optimal growth;
your substrate is too dry. did you get the water to substrate ratio right?
your jars aren't getting enough air exchange. do you have the holes taped down?
you bought shitty syringes from a shitty online vendor. i've bought some syringes before which were absolutely useless. some vendors seem to be only concerned with squeezing as many syringes out of a print as possible. anyway, i've had your problem before because of this. ie. some jars would take forever to germinate and others wouldn't germinate at all.
hope this helps.

You still haven't mentioned your incubation temperature. This is crucial...

i did mention bacterial contam that could have stoped the growth. why not open a jar to check?

he mixed em in one big bowl and half are growing ok. If the content was ok in the ones that grew they should be the same in the other jars SINCE they were mixed in one big bowl.

um they havent even germinated so why are u asking this???
i see some pretty useless stuff here too man.

Here's my bet.
You did not shake the syringe, therefore the first several jars got the majority of the spores.

Perhaps it's a slow strain? We don't even know what he's using yet? Correct?

if u read erlier he stated half are at 80 % any cube strain will germinate within a month so that has nuthing to do with it.
