we're not talking about k-1

we're talking about MMA and your claims to have watched it for a long time.

Do you really want me to call out your bluff?  It'll only take a couple easy trivia questions.

Actually, let's make this interesting...for every question you ask me, I'll ask you one in return.

You better actually know what you're talking about.

how did Justin Eilers earn his title shot?

what was the biggest fight announced in 2004 in the UFC?

oh, and who was the sherdog consensus favorite going into the Pride 2003 Final Conflict?

It's subjective, but I'd have to say the biggest fight of 2004 would have to be Liddell/Ortiz. Mir/Sylvia is a personal favorite of mine, but I don't think it compares to the hype of UFC 47.

Wandy was obviously cream of the crop at the time, but I'll go with Liddell being the favorite for FC 2003, for some reason he pops into my head.

and IIRC, Eilers was gifted a title shot after getting knocked out twice in a row; a testimony to the weak state of the HW division during Arlovski's reign. I could be wrong though.

Firstly, the biggest fight announced by far, in 2004, was the cross promotional super fight between Randy Couture and Wanderlei Silva.  Wanderlei came into the ring holding his pride belt after Couture's tko stoppage of Belfort in UFC 49.

There was no bigger fight by far that could be contemplated by then.  This whole announcement created a massive frenzy in the MMA world (largely online, as internet forums was pretty much the only way the sport was surviving back then).

Ortiz vs Liddell was a pretty big fight announced, but it's more of a matchup that was long overdue, and neither guy had the belt at the time.

Also, it was actually Quinton Jackson who was considered the favorite going into the '03 final conflict, as it was predicted on sherdog, and basically everyone else who watched it back then knew Wanderlei was fighting the easier of the opponents, while Quinton was tearing through opponents.  2003 was supposed to be Rampage's coming out party, as it was also seen on Sherdog's preview of the event, predicting Rampage to beat Silva via TKO stoppage in the finals.

Liddell was a respected fighter back then, he was considered a legit contender, but the guy still had many holes in his game and people were wondering how he'd do against a much more loaded LHW division than the sad state the UFC was in (ala Ortiz's title hold out).  People questioned him after his loss to Couture.

Justin Eilers was given a last minute title shot after a botched attempt at a comeback to the UFC by Ricco Rodriguez.  RIcco had been saying for a while how he could beat Arlovski again, and people gave him the benefit of the doubt considering he lost his title to Tim Sylvia, who would later test positive for steroids following that bout.

You put a pretty good effort, but i had to make these questions a little bit harder so that you couldn't just google search the answers.  But everything I talked about was incredibly relevant at their times, long before all the noobs and their mother's jumped aboard the MMA bandwagon in 2005.

You do seem to know more than most, but honestly nowadays it's hard to actually find people who were hardcore fans back then, as 99% of people who watch MMA nowawdays are just TUFer generation noobs who claim to be experts but then cry when they get called out on their knowledge.

So I failed the test  For the record, I misunderstood the second question. I thought it meant the biggest fight of 2004.

Also, I disagree with your assessment that Rampage fought tougher competition during that tournament. In the first round, Wandy fought Sakuraba, while Rampage fought Bustamante, who shouldn't have even been there. In the semi's, I agree that Rampage had a tougher match against Liddell than Silva in Yoshida, but it's not as if Liddell/Bust blows away Sakuraba/Yoshida.

So you're unaware that at the time, Murilo was considered the #1 p4p fighter in the world?

according to anyone who actually followed the UFC and Pride back then.

Bustamante was unanimously considered the top 185er in the world after he tapped out Matt Lindland twice in one fight.

Back then Lindland was considered the unstoppabled force until Busta moved down in weight and dominated him on the mat.

Busta was also considered the best fighter under 205.

He had just won the MW championship before leaving the UFC to fight in Pride.  This was a trend back then.

Did you really watch MMA back then?  Be honest.
