Whimiscal Setup
    #1279177 - 02/04/03 04:26 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Thanks Kykeon for the great setup. I just modified it a tiny bit.
This isn't the exact setup I'm making, mine will just consist of two airstones on each side instead of one. The airstones are about 15'' long connected to a dual output airpump. The Air hose is stuck to the side/bottom of the Sterlite plastic tub via suction cups... I'm gonna drill some holes in the side, stuff em with polyfill, and then stick the tubing inside.  FEEDBACK PLEASE. I'm going to use this for casings... um I'm gonna set it up tonite, and see how the humidity levels are.

Once again, FEEDBACK PLZ.

One thing I worry about: THe lights. They are regular candesant xmas lgihts in a glass case. I'm afraid humidity will do something bad to them.. FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS ACCEPTED

Erg, this setup is WAY too humid heh. 99% RH... I'll need to tweak it a little bit...

yes, that's probably way too much water for casings. i have that setup but my container is upside-down for light penetration, easy air exchange and harvesting and my bubbler is confined to a pan with water/h2o2/perlite.

#1 Way to much humidity, just rinse the perlite and put it in + 1 cup water/h202

#2 I Guarantee the light tube is going to dry out the cakes.
(use christmas lights)

#3 poke hole in the side above the perlite & use a glass, fill with water put air line inside that, put bubbler on a timer every 4/5 hours for 15 min's.

#4 Do Not OPEN & thank me for the automated set up. + spray casing until pins starts.

OK I redid it. Feedback Please? I'm gonna test it out tonite with nothing but hygrometers.

Also, the temperature is a little low (66F)... How can i UP the temperature to the desired 85F in this grow chamber???

Thanks

what is the desired then?

I'm going to set a timer for these air pumps because its still at 99% RH. How long and how often per day should I run the air stones??

This is what I did with the timer
Started the Timer at 6:00 AM, to start the bubbler for one minute. This process is to be repeated every two hours. What do you think?

I use the outdoor timer because it only offers intervals for 15 minutes at a time, all the other go for a half hour which i feal is not as good.

Note: using what i suggested above step#1-#4 I use casings w/coco fiber and once i see pins the mushies are fully grown in 4-5 days , no longer or you'll get some aborts.

right now im trying to get the humidty right, i think the only way u will be able to do it is trial and error. Just set it up and watch the humity. if theres not enough, set the timer so it pumps more and vise-versa. takes time but once its done ull know its right.

A few things:
First, you can get an indoor 14 programmable timer for about $20-$30. You can set them to start and stop whenever you want and for any duration.

Second, I have a small 6 qt tub of water with H2o2 with a large 18 inch water stone set diagonally in there. Will this provide adequate humidity and airexchange? One problem with this set up is that the two 6 QT tubs take up the majority of the space in the 66 QT large tub :\.

So I thought of another plan... either dont have perlite, or put the perlite inside the same tub with the airstone. So basically it'd be about 1/2''-1'' perlite in approx 3'' water with the airstone completely submerged. What do you think???

OK. I answered my own questions. First Perlite floats, and damm it's dirty, so I may compltetely get rid of that.
Second, I switched toa microbubbler 6'' airstone instead of the huge blue ones. Testing it out now to see how it works. I'll let anyone whos interetesd know of my final setup.

Tested it out the setup more. Came up with more problems.

Decided to drill four 1/2'' holes down in each corner of the tub. They are located on the bottom, and then I stuft them with polyfill.

Still continued with the 1 minute bubbler run every 2 hours. Still 99%+ RH.

Maybe its my hygrometers. I'm going to try the salt test on them to see if they perfect to 75% RH. I'll keep all the viewers posted on this.

BTW. my tubing is silicone, so its very flexible. It can fit right under the lid and deliver the right amount of air. I recommend this type over the harder, clear plastic ones. The kind I bought was Petsmart's TOPFIN which costs about $3-$4 USD per 25 ft. if I recall correctly. It's very plaible and versatile.

One thing I'm testing right now is just completly disregarding the airstone and just leaving a 6 QT tub of 3'' water in there. I wonder how that will turn out. If its still 99% RH, we have a problem, since the air stone wouldn't be affecting the RH inside. I'll keep you all posted.

Once I perfect this, I'll make a small tutorial on how to make a completely automated setup. I am still in need of a small 6'' submersible water heater. Found one on ebay I'm bidding on right now, they're hard to come by.

Wish me luck!

daba

I currently have two 66 QT upside down sterlite tubs.
Both have 4 holes drilled into the bottom most corners.
One is polyfilled, the other isnt.

Maybe the polyfill is whats causing the high RH.

Ill get back to this in a few.

Another quick question.
What RH am I aiming for? I know its somewhere in between 85%-92% for casings? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks

this is my understanding and what works for me... cakes = ~95% not less but maybe a little more. casings = ~80-85%.

After taking off the entire tops, the Hygrometers seem to be in check. RH is about 60% with the air stones running... back to the drawing board!
