Poppies, rootspace, and flowering.........
    #1281236 - 02/05/03 10:53 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

If someone wanted to grow some poppies indoors, would they need large pots to do so? Word on the street is poppies dont like being transpanted and have fragile root systems(dont know how true this may be).....

Soooo....
would using 4"x4"x4" square pots....putting 2 or 3 seeds per pot.....culling the weak seedlings after a week or two......then force flowering after they are a foot tall..... be a feasible project? or would this be too tight a space for them and effect flowering?

Finally: What are the 'light cycles'for flowering and foliage growth? (what the flock is the word for that?!? phototrepid?,,Doh, thats gonna bug me

i would think you'd want bigger pots. yes, the root system is fragile. the word you are looking for is photoperiod. i don't know what poppy's proper photoperiods are. people at poppies.org will know for sure.

If I remeber correctly you want at least 4 inches seperating each plant. I don't know for sure, so check a few grow guides and see what they say.

I have some growing indoors under a 400w HPS, all in 1 gallon pots, 1 plant per pot. I've never tried to force flowering, I've always just started them on an 18/6 light cycle, and they seem to flower on their own when they become mature enough. So I reccomend either an 18/6 or 16/8 light cycle. You could start vegging them with 24/0 I suppose, but I don't notice much difference in growth between 24/0 and 18/6.
