Smell of dried mushrooms

How should dried mushrooms smell? I dried some mushrooms for the first time and put about 16 grams dry (fan dried in a dry room for 24+ hours) into a 1 gallon freezer bag. When I opened the bag up after about 36 hours the mushrooms had a strong mushroom smell but it kind of smelled dirtier, its sort of hard to explain the smell but I was wondering if this is normal or if my mushrooms have some how gone bad in only a day and a half? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

My dried shrooms used to have a odor to them... but now I leave them in a drying chamber for like 7-10 before I remove them. They barely have any destict odor what-so-ever now. But I would think you should be ok.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Shouold my dried mushrooms kept in a plastic bag have a somewhat musty mushroomy smell?

there's always been a strong musty smell to my bags of dried shrooms, but i don't grow my own so i wouldn't know if theyve gone bad... but yeah theres always the same discgusting smell.

Even when mine are bone dry they have the smell of - maybe feet? kind of stinky, they never really smell good, kind of like they taste maybe. Theyre all good as long as they are dry enough, but if they get mushy and smell sweet, you might have a problem.

my dried mushies smell like they taste- yep kinda like old dirty socks.

it's verm i can't stand the smell of more tho. yuck!

Walnuts, or some kind of other nut, maybe peanuts, thats what they smell like to me. Too bad they didnt taste that good :smile:
