BRF cake question
    #1279013 - 02/04/03 05:43 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

ok--my cakes are aabout 95% done.  i used 1 pint instead of 1/2 pint...once i birth them, can i splice them in half?  so instead of having 6 big cakes, have 12 smaller ones.  will these be beneficial or useless?  thanks a lot :grin:

They'll still have the same amount of surface area. I don't think it'll do too much for you yield-wise. If this is your first grow (IMO) just birth them as cakes.

sorry, but you're wrong. slicing your cakes obviously DOES increase the surface area. also, read the following;

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7976/pag/0

here's a short excerpt from that page;

"Now, the Theory behind this method is that when using half-pint cakes, cutting a cake in half and fruiting each half-cake will produce roughly twice the yield in the end compared to if you had fruited a whole one. I, along with a few others, have tried this and repeatedly found it to be absolutely true!"

This is taken from the SOS Tek, and refers to casing. The poster was asking about birthing them as cakes. They are right, it will double when cased, but when birthed as two "half-cakes" there should really be no difference.

how about you make a small casing with 1 half to get a feel for it, and birth the other, and if the casing works youll have at least 3 times as much as the 1 fruiting from the cake
