Spore syringes

Ordering spores syringes is not a wise choice. It is almost always better and safer to order spore prints. Some vendors don't like or allow this. Syringes from vendors are often contaminated or become contaminated, however, good ones will replace them. Sporeworks. It is much better to make syringes yourself or streak agar plates with a loop using dried spores. Many vendors don't want to sell spore prints. Because they only need a few mushrooms and can generate many spores syringes from a single fruit body. I don't know what each vendor like to do, but a sterile dilution series can create a large amount of syringes from a singe mushroom. Many syringes are clear. Look like water. Spore are rarely viable after two years using common methods of storage and germination. If one wants to use spores they must germinate on some media while still viable and the resulting culture or cultures will remain viable for many years. This is another reason beside the obvious as to why fungi cultures are stored instead of spores. Unfortunately, because of the law in some countries, syringes that would work for long period of time for example pure culture syringes are illegal because they contain illegal alkaloids. In the case where culture syringes are legal, it is wise to get a syringe because the culture is good for long periods of time and are just as fast or faster than agar transfers These must be made sterile. Also, Clean spore syringes prepared form fresh spores can inoculate grain just as well, and it is just as easy to prepare grain as it is to prepare brow rice/verm mixes. Pf may be better viewed as a marketing phenomena similar to the prerolled filtered cigarette.

I make my own syringes and they always look clear because I put as little spores as possible on purpose to cut down on genetic variance. I always make them and think damn, I don't think there are any spores in there and then once used to inoculate, bam, mycelium everytime. Many more experienced growers try to use extremely small amounts of spores in their syringes.

Reminds me of one of my first posts in the cult forum when I happened to be very drunk. I deleted it out of shame. RR and Road started spouting off about how growing mushrooms is technologically demanding and whatnot. I'd love to read it again.

So should I not buy spore syringe(s)? I know more than one friend who uses them, never a problem ever, one does not even heat them.... I am going to continue looking around shroomery, but there is soooooo much information it is hard to find the answer I am looking for. It's like my car keys, I know they are here somewhere, just can't find the damn things.

Most spore vendors will replace the contaminated syringes, other than that, if you sterilize like you are supposed to, you should be unlikely to end up with contams

Hey woodchip, the just pulled up to dock for you to jump on,as this thread and everything you had to say is a total FAIL!
I have never gotten a dirty syringe from the vendor/sponsor I have been using the past 6 years.
It is much easier to get a dirty print or tto make that print dirty.
If you don't have a glove box or a flow hood your chances of that print becoming infected with contaminant spores before you can turn it into a syringe are soooooo high it's not even funny dude.Your post was absolutley not needed as there is already enough bad info going around here lately.
Also I have had syringes that were older then 2 years old and they still germinated and grew mycelium as if they were brand new.Keep em in a refrigerator at the proper temps and they can last a damn long time.

Syringes are often contaminated. Even from the best vendors. Experience shows this. It is not their fault. A spore print can always provide viable cultures even if is a little dirty provided it is less than 4 months old and stored dry. A contaminated syringe is difficult or impossible to save. My advise is good. Make your own syringes from the sent spore print. Than you have both a spore print and syringe for the same price. It is back up. Your cheating yourself not to get the spore print. Sorry for those who disagree. If you cant get a container for a glove box you will not be able to grow mushrooms consistently. You will get contamination.

ive never gotten a contamed spore syringe from a vender as of yet. but i do understand the moral and the reason of the posting....somewhat, am i correct?: buy a contam free spore print from a vendor and make many spore syringes instead of just one?
