Someone want to double-check me on a PH issue?
    #1276350 - 02/04/03 04:35 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Im trying an experiment (see my grow log "experiment in error").

I got a little ph test kit. I am doing pf style cakes, only using rye flour instead of brf.
With a regular 2:1 verm to rye flour ratio, and the simple minds water tek. I tested the ph of this (PRE PCing) and got a somewhat acidic reading of 6, or maybe a bit higher.
So I added a couple of heaping tablespoons of lime and gypsum (This per a nearly two gallon bucket of substrte)
I tested the ph again and it was on the alkaline side, a high 7 almost 8.

What I would like is for some of you to try taking a ph test of this same recipe before and after adding lime and gypsum (Maybe taKE better messurements then I did?)
I am currious to see if other people get the same or close to ph readings that I did.

And Id like some feedback about adding lime and gypsum to pf style substrates and adjusting the ph levels to help ward off contams.

The Simple Minds tek will turn out too dry if you use that much flour.

Not necessary. The PF substrate is good as is comes.
