    #1271256 - 02/02/03 01:17 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

durring the fall i was walking around my house in long island new york and i found some mushrooms that were about 3-6 inches long with large flimsy bell caps and had a hollow stem.  they were yellowish/greenish in color and the outside of the cap was powdery. when broken they bruised brown or purple. spore were a dark purple color. i found them growing in large clusters under a small holly tree. anyone got an idea what they could be??

Your description is too vague. Read this thread.

If you can post any toher information it mught be helpful. But the description so far contains elements which don't go together in any species I can think of.

GumbyDude's post shows he is focusing on the overall color and powdery cap.

If I were to focus on the overall color, spore print color, and growth in clusters I would probably guess Hypholoma fasciculare, also known as Sulfur Tufts.

Gumby's post is Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, a frequent find in flowerpots. Mykoweb has an excellent page on the species. Note that they have a white, not purplish spore print.

The fact they were growing in flowerpots would be exactly the sort of detail that would help to confirm an ID. Odd things like that may seem unimportant, but they can make all the difference for some species.
