So is there a noticeable potency loss with grinding them up? I'm not a mycologist, but it seems there would be significantly more exposed surface area in which the good stuff can oxidize. Or is that not an issue once the water has been removed?

AFOAF said they would be exposed to more oxygen temporarily, but if they're immediately packed into capsules that would not be a problem.
He also said if you throw them in a jar with a bag of decissant and perhaps fill the jar with dryice/CO2 then they'd store for a long time...

if it's powdered and packed tightly in a jar, and then maybe even a dessicant pack and oxygen absorber put in there... there's just no oxygen in the jar for that to be a problem.

what about while you are grinding, breaking, and exposing alot of those cells to oxygen in the air? i would bet a percentage is lost to oxidization, but probably nothing noticeable.
i would suggest to anyone using this method of ingestion to drink a warm beverage like some tea or coffee..decaffeinated for the jittery. the warmth of the liquid will help dissolve the gelatin. even some orange juice if not a warm drink..the extra acid will help everything along.

they are in contact with less oxgen for a lesser amount of time with this preperation\storage technique. the only thing that i think could be better would be freeze drying and then vacuum packing.

I can't justify buying the 000 caps when they cost almost twice as much as the 00 caps. Another thing is the physical size of what I want to swallow. Using 00 caps I put .5 grams in each cap. So I swallow 2 caps at a time. So two swallows and I am done. My first time making the caps I did not grind up my little buddies real good so I had to swallow 12 caps for 2 grams. That sucked. I did not like having to swallow so many times to get them all in. I would have to imagine that with 000 size caps I could probably only swallow one at a time. That is why I prefer to use the 00 size caps.

Since .5g is about what you can fit in the "OO" and "OOO" have 44% more volume, I would say .75 grams tops for the "OOO".
I would bet a million dollars on it.

I've noticed no ones mentioned the tek. Seems like a great homemade method, I plan on using it myself in the future. That whole reduction of nausea seems like a pretty good idea to me.

itd be easier to just put the shroom powder in one of those airtight spice jars..keep it up on the spice rack and use it as a seasoning i bet it will add a nice kick to soup/chili/pizza/or anything... hell, i bet u could make a pretty wicked birthday cake with it!!

ionno if you care, but gelatin are the ones that are made from animals, the vegtable ones are the ones that vegans eat becuase no animals died, my brotheres is a super vegan and always tells me about that kinda stuff.

*bump* to the top again, as this i found invaluable, and there are lots of newbs about.
i managed to get 0.5g in every cap, but only by taking the machine apart and ignoring the built-in spacer. now i do this:
1. break up dry shrooms small in the bag
2. use a coffee gringerf to turn it into dust and flakes
3. use a coke grinder (not mine, naturally) to turn it all to a very fine dust
4. weigh out enough to fit 0.5 in each cap (12g, as my machine is a 24-capper) and just take the time to force it all in, in stages
5. remember that the big half of the cap may have to sit almost 5mm below the surface of the base
hope this inspired someone - now mine are all unidentifiable in various vitamin bottles. about 200 caps all in. ideal for lazy days off

Unless your sellin some X in em why do you bother using em'.just make no sense.
I like the capsules because they:
Are easy to take, I don't like the taste of shrooms and they make me feel sick, and tea is good, but it isn't instantly available. I take a handfull of vitamins and suppliments everyday and have no problem popping 15 large pills.
Are easily concealable, put into jars of RipFuel or similar products they are virtually undetectable. The man is catching on to chocolates now, and these are easier to hide.
