Jars of Millet
    #1273415 - 02/03/03 09:19 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

This may be a simpy question to some of you...so please  roast me on this one.  I have prepared some jars of millet and already PC'ed them, have them stored in a sterile enviroment.  However, this was done approx. 2 weeks ago.  Have not had time to do my grain transfers.  My question is this:  Are my jars still viable after this time or would it be recommended to redo the whole soaking/straining/loading/PCing process over again?  The only reason I ask this is because I worry that the moisture content might not be right anymore.
Thanks for the help.  :smirk:

I too would be concerned about the moisture content and there is always that one contaminant microbe that survives the PC or that one that makes it in somewhere (I don't know, but leave an un-inoculated jar around long enough and it contams) so you are best off performing the preparation again. seriously, if there's any doubt why risk it? you'll just hate yourself for it when it fails.

Yes, I think I subscribe to your philosophy aswell, debianlinux.  I guess I was just hoping that my concerns were unwarrented and someone who's had the same experience would say everythings okay.  Its not like millet costs a small fortune or that even redoing everything would be all that difficult.
Thanks debianlinux.

if your jars were sealed tight, holes taped shut, and foil left on , etc etc etc i'd say go for it!!

but with polyfill and reversed lids,,,,, start over!!

I would say go for it after inspecting them for contams. As long as the jars were covered properly you shouldn't have lost too much moisture.

IMHO, the sooner you innoc or G2G transfet the better. One or 2 days after PC'ing is fine. I would venture to say -- after 2 weeks, the moisture content will be off & you will have a higher than normal contam rate & possibly slower colonization, if they dried out - any.

I don't eat a ham sandwich that has been stored 2 weeks. Because of the possibility something could be wrong with it.
