A good description of what it's like to trip

Has anyone here ever read any trip reports and thought to themselves "Damn, this is the best way I've ever seen someone put what its like to trip into words!" I would really like to read that before I trip for the first time, just so I know what to expect and dont flip out.
My friends are just like, yeah the stuff changed colors, tracers, dude melting, same bullshit, nothing in depth enough for me to feel comfortable taking mushrooms.
Can mushrooms make you go insane?

I've read a few reports and they sound awesome, but is there one out there that you would say is the "best"?

Yes... mine
No, but seriously just take a look around the main part of The Shroomery and go through some trip reports as well as the following two documents: The Psychedelic Experience FAQ How to Avoid a Bad Trip
Have a good one

im sure youv heard the phrase "words will not describe it" a thousand times.
You will not truly appreciate this phrase until you try it, they truly cant. Ever have something on the tip of your tongue but cant think of the word? Words can vaguley (sp?) paint a picture, but words will not create a mona lisa.
another reason why is besides the base effects (breathing, deeper colors, changed thought pattern)... trips are very different for some people. Just the way the body / brain handles it may have you perceive the trip in your way. Some people have more of a "body high", some are mental, some are more visual then others, the good ones , to me , are all those mixed together.
I consider this trip report to be among my farthest reaching. I tried to explain things as metaphorically as possible, but words often fail me , and I find when writing a trip report, im searching for an easy to understand description, but thats not always easy.

thats very true.. Words cant describe what happens during a trip to a certain extent. The basics are that colors are different and brighter. More neon. It kinda feels like you are underwater/ on another planet. You see tracers, warped patterns, melting, and its warm... thats the best i can describe it.

I would reccomend against trying to figure out what it's like before your first time. I read this guy's trip report who had done that and it was like
"I had never done mushrooms before so I was pretty excited. I was aiming for a level 2 or maybe level 3 (Note to first timer: the 5 point rating system is misleading). Then I had this really horrible trip because things didn't go as I had expected! It would have been fine if it happened as I thought it would, but it didn't. Oh well, NEXT time the trip will be as it SHOULD I hope."
You just get all these dumb ideas of how a trip should be. You'll be fine, and yes, you WILL go insane, but you'll be pleasantly surprised to find how fun that can be!

For me it is not about the visual effects (although they are nice) as much as it is about the overall feeling of positive energy. Words cannot describe it. Start with a reasonable dose.

for me the one questions of "WHAT THE FUCK!?!??!?!!" is present in every trip
shrooms are truely crazy...everything will seem new to you like your a baby looking at the world for the first time, yet you sorta know what shit is....walls will seem to pulse in your periphery, you will be exremely giddy, energetic, and crazy. its chaos man. the more fucked up you are, the more visuals and body trip you will feel. If you have smoked marijuana, take that stoned, funny, stupid feeling, intesify that feeling a bit, then add in some chaos and crazy visuals, and extend it by a few hours.
fuck trying to find out whats its like on the internet, you CANNOT go into a shroom trip for the first time expecting to experiance shit you see online...just do it man its not that harsh!!

o yea....during the trip you WILL feel insane, and you might feel like that insane feeling will never go away...but after a nice bowl of some weed and a good nights sleep, you wont even remember that insane feeling, just the crazy fun you had
shrooms are FUN!!!! the funnest shit ever, beter than a roller coaster or cheap drunken sex. the emotions and feelings you will experiance will be very pleasant if you go into the trip with a good attitude.
if you feel panicky, remind yourself that you are just tripping and that in a few hours all will be norm

ill tell you man, your trrip weill be completely diffrent depending on your wieght, personality, mood, dosage, atmosphere, enviroment, strain ofm ush, weather youve eaten recently, what youve eaten, if you did anything else with them or recently... in other words there is no way to describe what a trip is like... your best bet is to 1. read over the information on this site about the effects, the trip tips, dosages etc, just to get a basic idea of what physically mushrooms do toy ou. this wont even give you the sluightest idea what it really FEELS like , your first trip will show you that, but at least you wont be going in blind. after that, read as many trip reports as you can handle, from all the levels. this will show you a wide variety of things that can happen or have happend to other people. Like i said this doesnt compare to doing it in any way, but by getting a sense of this vast array of possible experiences you will be that much more prepared for what really happens. as for going insane, yes and no. I mean, the mushrooms themselves physically will not make you go nuts or anything like that, however you may feel slightly unhinged for any amount of time afterwards. this is because of the mental shock caused by having your beliefs and ideas on reality so drastically changed. after relying on the input of your sense for so long, seeing those senses drastically distorted and warped can be a frightening experience. However, the benefits and pleasure that you can have are beyond words... Another possibilty is that mush will reach into the deepest aspects of your personality and wrench them into focys so that you cant hide them from yourself. this experience can also be horrifying, sometimes a trip will show you how you have been squandering your time on earth, how many mistakes youve made. For example more than once on mush ive become terribly aware of my insensitivety to the feeling of others. i once phoned up a long time friend to say i was sorry for everything bad id ever done to him and to tell him that hes a great guy. this is an example of how mushrooms can really teach you lessons on how to live and behave. However, it can also bring to the surface latent mental problems. my brother went into a deep depression after on mushroom trip, and was bipolar for along time after. he had to be treated in some kind of a mental place for a few months. After all that though he still says that he would do it again, and that his times on mushrooms have been the best of his life. to summarize, be as informed as possible before takin the mushrooms. do some soul searching and plenty of research. ask yourself if your ready, if you enviroment is a positive one, and if your willing to have the basis of your reality ripped apart and the bare truth shown to you. that said, its possible youll just laugh you ass off at the walls for a couple hours and then fall asleep. thats the point. you never know.

elftrance.com Check out the little monkey with the drum - Phase 2: Evolution Great flash animation. Actually the closest description of a shroom trip i've seen (although mushrooms are not quite like that)...
Than check out the rest of the site, including the Mckenna's audio files. You won't be dissapointed!

I saw one like that where a guy goes to his phychitrist. the Phy starts beating his drum and the patient regress's to a trip like state and goes through a whole evolutionary process.
Anyway I think I've heard someone say that its like being a new born baby - everything fascinates you - like your seeing things - i mean really seeing things for the first time. Every noticed how a young childs head is shooting every where when you take them somewhere (its coz their taking everything in) We as adults block stuff out otherwise we get sensory overload. When we trip all our sensory overload protection vanishes - hence child like state.

yeoah! The video where the guy starts beating his drum and the guy starts tripping is great. It is called "flashback" and is an animation that uses flash. Do a search if you haven't seen it, it's really good.
