Panaeolina foenesecii and Panaeolus cinctulus (Set of 10 unknown)
    #12732436 - 06/12/10 04:47 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Well - if becoming a Panaeolus pundit, as David Arora puts it, is a good thing, I think I might just become one. By far the most interesting genus to me personally. Here's a series of photos I just took on a walk over a corporate/housing neighborhood.

Spore prints in progress. My guess is that all but two are Panaeolina foenesecii. Deceivingly little creatures, they are.

Extra entry: New Richard Ashcroft album forthcoming....

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

This is a learning process....All prints came out very dark brown. But here's a lesson in this: When spore prints come out real heavy/thick for Panaeolina foenesecii they can appear so dark that they can be mistaken for black. Perhaps (?) we should tell one another to look for a completely solid jet black for Panaeolus cinctulus instead of just "jet black."

This also raises a question about viewing the spores of a questionable print when distinguishing between these two. I've seen spore prints come out jet black (honestly jet black) but when viewing the spores at 400x under a microscope, the individual spores range in color between dark brown and black. Still something I'm learning more about.

Any comments from our TIs?
