The only way around this problem is buying some presterilized grains from one of the shroomery's wonderful sponsors. However, with shipping costs, it can get expensive. There was a post a while ago about sterilizing millet in the microwave, but I don't remember seeing the results. I'd say wait until you can afford a pressure cooker before you get involved with grains. Just my opinion.

If you don't have a PC, then don't even bother with grains. A lomg time ago I attempted this and it was mold hell. Either do brown rice flour and verm. or get a PC. Personally, I bought a PC and it has be mushie heaven ever since.

Thanks for the advice all you dudes who took your time. Is it better to use fresh ground brown rice instead of the prepacked brown rice flour? Then you can sterlize with boiling water.

Don't give up so easily. It is possible to sterilize in the microwave. I just did 6 jars of WBS in the microwave for ten minutes a piece and shook them at every two minutes. This will work just make sure you don't put the lids on before you microwave them ( use saran ).

Yup, the nuker DOES work!!

If you can find them, plastic lids are ok, but as above post said, don't screw them on tight, let some steap escape!!!

the water content has to be a bit higher than with a PC method, but it's close!!

check the grow log, i think there is a post on this!

Just go to Wally world and shove a PC down your pants and walk out and VOILA!!!!  all PC problems are solved!!!!!!  J/K...I don't advocate theivory...but honestly my friend, its TOTALLY worth it to invest in a PC.  Someone always has one lingering around...mostly old people.  Maybe you have a grandma or something that would loan you one?

Never thought of that one.  They might get suspicious so make sure you constantly change locations

Or even better that it may be contaminated by some kind of fungus.
