CCV recipe
    #12723451 - 06/10/10 10:01 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

So I'm gonna try coir on my next grow cause I just used all my dry poo, and its been raining too much to dry out my wet.  I suppose I could just use coir/verm, but that seems a little sparse.  Does anyone know a recipe for CCV, because I don't want to add too many coffee grounds and all that.  And I'm guessing that you add the grounds after brewed from what I've been reading.  And finally, do you have to pasteurize after adding the grounds, because honestly one of the appeals of coir to me is that you don't have to pasteurize when simply using coir and verm.  Thanks for the input,
-Nig

Most people do pasteurize coir and verm I think, but coffee is notorious for bringing lots of trich to the table, so you DEFINITELY need to pasteurize coffee.

Having said that, straight coir, or coir/verm/gypsum works really well.

As already stated if you are using coffee u need to sterilize it really well or you will get contaminations.  But if you go with just a coir verm mix it can be pasteurized.

Spent coffee grinds are what you want to use.  After they've brewed a pot of coffee, they can be mixed with the coir and/or verm and pasteurized.  Don't use coffee grinds right out of the can.  Your substrate will contaminate.

Don't use coir without pasteurizing.  In addition, a mixture of 50/50 coir-verm makes an excellent substrate.  Verm has food for fungi too in the form of minerals.  It's also considered a 'fertilizer' for plants, so adding verm to any bulk substrate makes it better.  Gypsum is also an excellent mineral additive.

About what percent coffee grounds do you want?  My intuition says 10.
