while boiling my jars, the layer of vermiculite at the top became really wet in a few jars. is this a problem if the top layer of "dry vermiculite" becomes moist???? thanks

Did cover the jars good? I have never done jars but from my understanding the top DRY layer of verm is to protect from contams.

It could result to a problem. If it's just slightly moist, me personally i would give it a shot. But if its "wet" i would toss it and use the ones that aren't "wet".

Yes it could be.. but then again it could not..The chances of it being a problem are more so .. namely contams. I have inoculated jars with the dry verm on the top getting wet and have not had contams.,, If you have extra spores then I would knock them up.. The dry layer on top in not absolutely necessary. . But if it became to wet you may run into a problem. If you want to be safe. redo them

could i just place them back into the pot. ( i boiled them for an hour and a half). its not going to hurt them to sterilize them again, is it? could any problems occur if you heat it up so much again? thanks

how would that help the dry verm layer being wet, i say open the jars, take the wet verm out, put some dry verm in, cover with 2 layers of foil and sterilize a second time, it mite fuck up yur moisture content though

If the water consistency looks similar to the other jars then do what psycoslut says. Or you could redo them entirely, if you're worried. But if they looked the same I would knock them up. It all depends if you have enough materials (spores, substrates) and if too much water got in the jars and oversaturated them.

1. Just spray some lysol in the air
2. dump that wet verm out
3. sterilize some verm in the oven
4. open the jar up infront of the oven and dump the verm into the jar

poogrower, i hate to even go here and I have a feeling your gonna go ballistic at me but from wht I have seen you have rather limited experience and offer rather dubious advice. please don't offer advice that you have not personally verified and performed yourself. just because you think it will work does not mean that it will. in this particular case this is REALLY BAD ADVICE. the correct answer is start the jars over and make sure you cover the tops with foil to prevent water from getting in, also make sure the water level is down enough so that it doesn't seep in..
