Is this The kind of Straw? Please Help!
    #1270953 - 02/02/03 12:36 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I went to michaels and they had straw bales. They said natural bright full length straw. It was compressed in a bale and was tied with 2 metal wires. Its a 6 by 6 by 12 inch block. Is this the straw that I want for bulk substrate? What is a good ratio to straw/horse poo so my poo will last longer, (its in short supply)and my straw will preform better.I just bought a bale. Thanks alot

If you can, get the shredded straw instead of the full lenght one.

i use hay that is used to feed gerbils and rabbits and it works great!!  *yayYY*
I go with a 60%hay to 40% poo and spawn with 4 brf cakes , colonises super fast.
I think this is a good ratio to stretch out ur poo, besides i found that the more poo one uses to spawn their
brf cakes with, the worse it gets for me (meaning, slower colonization)
Also i find that cutting the hay into very small pieces helps as well. soaking it in water helps shredding
it much easier IMO!
