gypsum vs calcium carbonate

I just received 40lbs of ultra-fine gypsum (21% calcium & 17% sulfate)
looks like this:

also got me a few pounds of pure calcium carbonate, from a wine-making supply store.
looks like this:

in my understanding, i should use either one and not both for a 50/50+ casing mix.
so far ive cased a couple trays with 50/50 pete/verm, with 1/4 part hydrated lime and 1 part ultra-fine gypsum.
now that ive received this calcium carbonate, i want to experiment some more, what proportions should i do with the 50/50 mix and hydrated lime?
thank you!!

Calcium carbonate is used for long term ph buffering. Thats its only purpose.
Gypsum is used for nutrient supplement, anti-clumping, and long term ph buffering.
CC is better at buffering, but gypsum has more benefits. If you used hydrated lime to set the ph, gypsum all you need to buffer and it had more benefits than CC.
Use gysum at 10 percent per volume.
I believe CC is the same, at ten percent, and can be used with gypsum. I wouldn't use CC with hydrated lime, though, considering they are the same thing.

interesting...makes sense.
basically im trying to eliminate magnesium from my casing mix...

The calcium carbonate will do the same thing as the hydrated lime, but will take quite a bit more, and needs longer to break down. I prefer to use hydrated lime because casing layers don't last long enough to need a long term buffer anyway.
Gypsum is for supplying essential minerals without altering the pH. RR

When it comes to gypsum and calcium carbonate, there ain't no versus, home skillet. They are two separate entities used in two completely different applications, as stated above. Gypsum is a source of calcium and sulfur and is used in all stages of mushroom cultivation. Hydrated lime provides calcium hydroxide used to balance your PH in casing covers and to pasteurize straw with, giving straw an alkaline bath and controlling PH swings.

what would i do without you guys
so then its pure calcium carbonate vs hydrated lime
would propotions for a 50/50 though?
