it most definitely is not true, or we'd all be chopping cakes into bits.
if you want to turn 1 cake into 5, crumble the cake and use chunks of it to inoculate more jars.

I think you might have misread the SOS tek. It can yield about 20% more(not 50) doing this method..BTW, Hippie is right, you might also try taking the chunk and putting it in sterile h20, shake it up, inject 1cc h202, and your ready to inoculate.
