i may be the only fool on here that gets excited seeing that.
edit- try and get some clay pots. nothing against plastic but clay pots seem to wick away water much better. just a tip.
Thanks, and trust me, you're not the only one that can't get enough Loph. porn.
I couldn't find any clay pots of a suitable size for these guys, but they don't seem to mind the plastic pots. I water them at night and they are dry by the afternoon of the next day. That's AZ for ya' lol.

Man I am getting jealous looking at all of your amazing cacti guys. I haven't grown any Lophophora before but I am excited too. I am just worried about how to get the genetics in my possesion so I can start the process. Is the only loph that is illegal in the states williamsi? I only have an opuntia now.

Lucky for you... I took a trip to Amsterdam several years back and I saw little peyote for sale. I wish I had bought a couple and smuggled them back. Oh well. I am sure if I am diligent enough some seeds may just fall in my lap. Otherwise I don't know how else I would obtain.
Personally growing from seed seems most fruitful and a much more satisfying method of propagation. What is the usual germination rate for LW seeds? What factors boost the percentage?

I've had anywhere from ~20% to 100%. Age plays a huge role. How they were also plays a role, just like any other seeds.

Thanks for the info but, uh, that last sentence just doesn't really make sense to me.

getting seeds in the states is not hard at all. maybe even plants too but i would be weary of buying a little willy and having sent to the states.
if you talk to the right people, anything can happen.

I had 1 batch of seeds that had probably a 5% germination rate and then i bought 200 seeds from a reliable vendor who had just harvested them and i got at least 80% germination rate.

i had almost 90% germ rate from a UK vendor.
too bad my skills as a newbie led me to kill almost 80% of them.
i started lophophora decipiens and lophophora fricii from a trusted source and got about 45% to 50% germination rates.
not too shabby if you ask me. and its just enough for breeding purposes. which is what i'm really after.

Except BBB sucks, but since they aren't a sponsor and this thread is about lophs, let's not talk about them.
