what do you guys think is better to get those mushies crackaa dry?
i know silica gel is more expensive but from what i've read on here damprid gives you better results? Usually thats not the way things go in life but I wanted to get others opinions.

They both kinda suck, IMO.
Invest in a decent dehydrator, it's well worth the 40-50 bucks.

DampRid rocks for a descant. I used to use it before I got a dehydrator. Either will work but a dehydrator is faster/better imo.

I'd personally choose damprid. You'll only ever need one package, you can reuse it by drying it out in the oven. But I think most desiccants allow for that.
But neither are optimal alone.

I use silica beads, I hear damprid can cause horrific taste issues...
And from what I understand it turns to paste as it absorbs moisture... sounds messy.
Fan dry, then put in air tight container suspended above a bunch of beads... if they turn purple then bake them for like 45 minutes on 350 or something, tells you on the package. (assuming they are color changing like mine)

I got 60 dry g's with 1 package of color indicator silica beads for $6.50.
I used half the bag at a time because of my container size, and it worked out great because I had a dry stash to use if they turned purple... and didnt have to wait for the oven... I will probably go get a few more bags soon, got some work to do...

Fan dry for 24 hours, then into a sealed container with your damp rid. Just make sure your mushrooms don't come in direct contact with the damp rid.
And like dale said when you're done using it just throw it in the oven and it will be good as new.

+1 for silica gel. Damp rid is a huge mess it gets all slimy so it's more difficult to reuse. Silica won't turn to mush so it's real easy to dehydrate when you are done.
Just don't get it on your mushrooms. The color indicator is some kind of heavy metal.

I think I'm just gunna make two drying chambers with one of each in them and see what produces the better results...after all this is all about experimenting

Mine never really turned mushy but I guess I just recharged it before it got to that point.
Dehydrator, ftw.
Good idea. It's always best in my opinion to learn things for yourself. I would recommend fan drying first, it will speed up the process.

I would still fan dry first. That takes most of the moisture out of the mushrooms. Then use silica gel/damp rid to finish them up. Either way good luck

Yeah, always fan for about a day and then pop them in the descant chamber.

No! Don't open the container, it will turn to dust upon exposure to fresh air!

If you are harvesting only grams, use a fan and some DampRid.
If you are havesting ounces, purchase a dehydrator and desiccant.
