Wise Words from a Yogi
    #12661892 - 05/31/10 04:49 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I am a yogi who drinks beer, because
It illumines the Diamond Body,
Completes the Enjoyment Body,
And gives form to all Emanation Bodies.

Milarepa was a wise old wanderer.

He was

of the great Tibetan yogis.

--------------------
“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

More good Milarepa quotes:

Quote:

Long used to solitude without servant or master,
I have forgotten courteous manners.
Long accustomed to be carefree,
I have forgotten worldly shame.

Quote:

The Dharma of you worldly people
Is too difficult to practice.
Caring for naught, I live the way I please.
Your so-called 'shame' only brings deceit
And fraud; How to pretend I know not.

If only I could begin to learn how to live with this kind of worldview.

I imagine it takes a kind of inward zest and lack of care about what others think.  It's a shame honesty is so rarely tolerated these days.

You shouldn't be afraid to live how you want to. I think the only thing this guy did wrong was to be angry at 'the world'. It's not only fruitless to be angry, but impossible to know 'the world', and what 'the world' really is, is your own concept in your own head, not necessarily shared with anybody else. So, you might just be angry at yourself.

My advice is to never cultivate anything you don't want to see in the world. It will start to disappear from your life and the world around you.

How do you figure he was angry at the world?

He should have tried one of those 12 step programs.:satansmoking:

" All that lives was born to die"-Anom.

The more knowledge, the more grief.

In those quotes he sounds a bit bitter. Maybe it's the translation, maybe he was just old.
