Checking them out...
    #1265143 - 01/31/03 08:43 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Is it bad to check on your grow everyday?
Like I have myco-bags going and I have been checking on them just about once a day,but no more then once,is this bad?

It doesn't seem to effect the growth of the mycelium any,I checked yesterday and a minute ago and there is like 3-5% more mycelium then yesterday!
Now it is half way down the front of the bag, well close to it and 1/4 of the top of the substrate,I would say 15% colonized so far,and yesterday probably 10%.

Also when I do check them out it is just a quick look at each of the bags in the bathroom were there is lots of light so I can get a good look.
Also is there anyway the myco-bags will pin before there 100% colonized if I keep looking at them for no more then 5 minutes everyday?
Can a myco-bag even pin without 100% colonization,say 50-75%?
Sorry for all the questions, just wondering and any help would be great!
Thanks!

Well, you KNOW they won't be done overnight,,,, It would be safer to leave them be.. but if you HAVE TO>>>> i think it would be ok as long as it's for very short amount of time...

But, again, you know what they look like!!

It's to your advantage to leave them be!

I know I should just leave them but thats so boaring, much funner checking them out!
Thanks

Although it's possible you'll screw them up by checking on them, it's very unlikely when using the PFTek (and probably moreso with Mycobags). The reason people say to forget about your colonlizing jars (or bags) is because it's so much easier on you. This is a stage where you actually don't have to do anything for your grow (other than provide the correct heat), so you should take advantage of that. This said, I don't think that it's possible to forget about the jars until you are somewhat of a seasoned grower, but as it (usually) won't hurt too much, it's not a big deal. Just know that you'll have much more work to do when you birth the jars, so if you want to take some time off now, you have that luxury.

Thanks for the info guys!
So is it posible that a myco-bag could pin without beaing 100% colonized?
I don't think I have ever read anything about this, but could it hapen?
I mean why do mushrooms need 100% colonization before they will fruit,if they grow from the mycelium and that is growing then why can't it pin now?
I am sure this sounds stupid, just curious!

I am sure they can't pin just by giving them 5 minutes of light a day from checking on them right?
Thanks

yes they can... I've had stuff pin way too early and ended up loosing alot, esp. when your waiting for a big tub of dung to fully colonize, I've seen them pin (and grow mature fruit) at about 60%

Cool.
Well I wasen't wondering if my myco-bags were goig to pin or not,but I wqas just wondering if it was posible.
It seems like the mycelium is fluffy enough to fruit but it is only like 15-20% colonized,I realy don't know how the mycelium needs to be to fruit but what ever!
I am just hoping that I get a first flush since I finaly have mycelium for the first time.

They will start to fruit if the right conditions are there. I wouldn't be worried though
just keep checking on them once a day for contamination and keep it warm, dark, and not too humid. I believe that temp and humidity play a bigger role in fruiting than light.
