It sure does look like it. There are no poisonous Chlorophyllum species where I live, so I can't be sure. You can take a print, and if it's not green, you're good.

M. procera is what I'd call it, too.

Brilliant, I'll be eating it this morning then. Not much to try, but hey, better than nothing. I attempted clone it to agar last night too, so with any luck I'll get a clean culture out of it.

The spore print is white.

The shiny umbo is a good way to tell the differences between M. procera and clelandii. How does it taste?

It tasted great. A bit like chicken, but with a very light texture. Remarkably similar in both taste and texture to a bogong moth actually.

Cool. I will have to try them out then, I hadn't bothered with them but I will now that someone else has been the guinea pig. :hamsterdance:

Parasols taste great! They have a specific taste and smell, very pleasant, and the texture is just right! I like them best fried in batter, with fried chicken and rice and peas. Damn, I'm getting hugry just thinking about it, it's sooo delicious!

I hope that's a name for some sort of dish I've never heard of. Moths just don't strike me as something I want to eat. I've never been tempted at all to try one.

Happy mushrooming!

Definitely not a name for some other dish. Bogong moths (Agrotis infusa) were traditionally eaten by Aborigines in the area. In fact, during the season, they were so highly sought after that they would travel great distances to find them. They were an important source of protein and fat. They are a pretty large moth, so have a fair bit of meat to them and actually taste quite good.
