    #1264949 - 01/31/03 09:52 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Anyone know of any good online sources for wheat straw and cow shit. I'm having a hard time finding one. It would be extra benificial if the source was in the midwest USA. thanks in advance

Not online , but it seems natural the Midwest USA, should have "feed & seed stores" for wheat straw - around $5 a 50 lb bale -- all over the place. Should also be plenty of sources of free horse/cow manure, all over the farm belt. You just have to look & not be afraid to ask.

thanks everyone for responding. In the spring and summer its really easy to find dung fresh from the pastures but with all the snow its a little harder now. I think I'm going to hit up ralphsters site for the straw. Again everyone thank you for taking the time to respond.

some feed stores sell it here but I don't have time to cut it and clean all the crap out of it.
I wish damn hay would work I have 3 barns full of it.
LOL maybe I should grow a field of wheat straw this year.

I agree with 6T.
There is Feed stores all over the Country.
I can get a bail of straw for $3.69 a bale here.
Never be afraid to ask someone that has horses or cows for some manure.
They will usually gladly give it to you for free.
If you are scared...tell them its for your roses.  :smirk:

do you have a link to the post?

hey, i'm not getting testy. i can see how you misread that. as usual I am the alltime most misunderstood poster. anyways, yes it colonized all by its little self with no help from poo. it is pre-chopped but i chopped it more. like i said it was about 5 bux. it was like a 3lb brick that is wrapped in wire. i'll try and see if I can dig up the link.

When you go these farms or feed stores and ask for cow/horse dung, what do you say your using it for? to enrich soil in your garden? I plan on trying to obtain some, just havent decided HOW im gonna ask, hehe

If you live in the Mid west or somewhere that is covered in snow now, tell them it is for your greenhouse.
