PNW Shroom Collecting
    #1264893 - 01/31/03 09:37 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Greetings, I live in the Pacific North West, (On the Idaho/Washington border). I was thinkiing it would be fun to go shroom hunting and take pictures of my finds and post them here for possible identification.

My question is are there any shrooms to be found this time of year in this area? its been raining the last 3 days, isnt after a good rain the best time to go? what type of areas should I be looking?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. (Dont worry, I would never eat anything unidentified, this would just be a fun project and an excuse to get out in the wild for a hike)

If by "shrooms" you mean Psilocybes, then no.  However, you're in a good area for hunting edible mushrooms, if you're into that kinda thing.  Post some pics and info on what you find and I'm sure people here can help you out with identification.  I dunno how the temps are over there now, but I doubt there's much of anything growing currently, march/april is when the morels start popping up in the lowlands of E. Washington usually.  They're generally the first edibles to start growing after winter where I come from.  There's only one way to find out if anything is around now though  .  With the warm temps and rain lately, there may be some growth...  Probably nothing worth eating or anything, but maybe something to practice your ID skills on.  Good luck.

DH

actually if it has been raining then you have a pretty good chance of finding som stuntzii's (blue ringers). They arn't that potent but enough of them is a very fun trip.

There are no blue ringers (P. stuntzii) on the Idaho. Washington border, they are a race which grows from Eugene, Oregon to British COlumbia from east of the Cascades to the Olympic mountains in the west of the coast.

Psilocybe Pelliculosa grows abundantly in parts of northern Idaho near the Washington border. Late Sept. through November
