Blue Mycena - Mycena subcaerulea?

First of all its great to be back on the Shroomery!
Habitat: Bark garden. Prefers logs and grows along the fenceline.
Gills: White when young, changing to light brown/grey when older.
Stem: Long thin white stems with slight blueing at base
Cap: Pins 5mm, mature caps no more than 30mm, white when young, changing to brown grey as they mature. Noticeable blue ring around the bottom of the caps. Small darker nipple on top of caps.
Spore print color: White
Bruising: Blue, but is already blue when picked. Blue ring around bottom of cap. Very blue pins. Very slight blue in stems.
Notes: I have read that these blue Mycena species turn to a normal brown colour very shortly after picking. I have included pics of ones that are still blue, even after drying.

Sorry theres so much pics, I just love taking lots of photos of fungi, its really interesting!
So i suspect this is Mycena subcaerulea, or Mycena amicta. How am I supposed to know the difference?
Also there have been very few unconfirmed reports that these are active. Do you know if these are active? I am very keen to bioassay these, is this safe or are there deadly Mycena species?
Sorry for all the q's!
Thanks for your help

Nice find. As for them being active I don't think the consenses is in. The are poisonous Mycena sp. though so I wouldn't eat those if I was you.
You're in New Zealand so I would go hunt some subs.
I'm no expert by the way so feel free to get some more opinions.

That looks like one hell of a find to me. Congratulations. It seems, to me, to fit the bill. Unfortunately, microsopic analysis will most likely be required to pin down what species it is.
Examples of both occuring in NZ:

http://mushroomobserver.org/43993?q=dNm
One second glance, both of those samples seem to be M. amicta.

Thanks for the fast replies guys.
This does resemble Mycena amicta, but it also looks very similar to Mycena subcaerulea
So just to confirm, these are inactive?
Are they safe to eat? because I want to bioassay them however i just wanted to check whether there are any toxic/deadly lookalikes.

Cool finds. They look like Mycena subcaerulea to me. Probably not active, and potentially containing muscarine.
-------------------- Mr. Mushrooms said: I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC. I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi. I really do. I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them. I think they are beautiful. I even dream of them.
