Yea I don't think its fungal but I may be wrong. The old flesh will never 'heal' but new growth looks healthy and damage free.

Repotting my 6 month old williamsii in the next day or 2. Prepped some lava rock, gneiss I collected and processed down at the beach ( for the felsic and mafic minerals) along with pearlite and succulent soil. Love these guys. Looking forward to putting them in a proper home.

So I got 41 seeds pop So far out of 60 or so. Seems I get a late straggler or 2 a day. A few seem stretched out as most are more round. Do some just stretch sometimes?? I don't think its the lighting because most look normal...

Lophophora Williamsii var Caespitosa on life support!

Oh No!

Transplantative surgery!

It LIVES!

Pupping and Etiolation :-(

Light recovery! These mofos got built in tap-roots!

Bigger!

Your 6 month olds are bigger than my 2 year olds!
Yesterday was a sad day for me; I lost a lot of my 1 year olds due to my nubile approach of doing a winter drought. They couldn't handle it. I'm still watering them but I'm pretty sure they're donezo.

Fuck man Iβm sorry to hear that. I know that pain though..I killed about 45 seedlings just a little while ago. I was obsessively checking on them in the takeout containers and ended up overwatering them due to the condensation falling back into the soil. Ugh. 3 survived. They are tough so keep your hopes up.

This is awesome. I've always loved cacti but somehow manage to kill most of them. I'm gonna blame my zone (5a/5b) but I know it's me. Germinated some Lws and tried to graft but killed em all.

I have germinated quite a few LW. The seeds came from my very own plant, whenever it would flower, I would fertilize it. I never got very far with the seedlings though. They take so long to get large enough to graft. All of my grafting stock has come from outside sources.
Those pictures are insane, because I grafted a 1/4" pup to a 3 foot cactus, and it actually fucking took! It was phenomenal.

Would it be bad to sterilize LW mix used for transplant? I usually cook my germination mixes but something that's established should have some kind of biome in there, no?

It shouldn't be 'bad' just not necessary unless you are planning on keeping it sealed for many months.

Try to remove all of the sticks and bark and shit like that. In the past, I have baked my soil, just to be sure, but I've heard a variety of reasons that one might not want to do that. I would just suggest using a soil with very little biodegradable material in it. Peyote use very little nitrogen, or minerals. You can provide that in a controlled way with small amounts of fertilizer, like once a year.
My 2 cents, but I am not an expert (Im not a rapper!) ok ;-)

I'm sifting the soil now and about to go find some tiny pots. Idk what happened to the myriad of tiny clay pots I've had for just this type of thing but oh well. Thanks for all the advice woof and everybody else. One last thing I remember reading somewhere that they could use a little calcium in the soil. I've got calcium +sand for hermit crabs. Would it be a bad idea to add a little of that as my grot sand? Or just go with inert sand? I know I'm probably overthinking this but I'm just sick of watching them die lololol.

Doesn't that change the pH of the soil to make it more basic? I'm not sure, honestly. I suppose I would be careful. From my understanding, lophs need very little, in the way of minerals and nutrients. They grow so incredibly slow, and small.
Again, I'm not an expert. If I were you, I would probably put a small amount in.
I really hope you do well, and if you do, and want to get rid of a few lophs...
hmu!

I wound up putting two large pinches of the cactus mix in. Used mostly pumice, a little perlite, regular sand and a little bit of lava rock (it looked fairly sharp so I tried to get the bigger pieces out best I could). Then top dressed with lava rock. I left it so the very bottom of the green flesh of the cactus wasn't touching and tried to kind of fill in with the lava rock on to keep a kind of barrier between the green flesh and the soil. I found some tiny pots but I don't think they were anywhere deep enough and definitely didn't have and room for growth on the sides but I'll have them for seedlings later on. Fingers crossed! And I got you woof. Thanks again for the help guys
