Anyone have experience here?
All of my lophs are in a 90% mineral mix, give or take. They seem to like it, but it's a little bit more work for them from what I hear, might have to find a specific mycorrhizae to help them along, like whatever something similar to what is found in their natural habitats, the stuff that helps them eat the limestone.
It's a mixture of lava rock, diatomaceous earth, crushed limestone, turface, calcined clay which is basically turface, theres some little fired clay balls, zeolite granules, some fluval stratum, a little perlite, a little bit of horticultural pumice, worm castings, and some charcoal.

Thank you for your input. I was thinking about going local and hunting for stones on the beach to crush. Tons of gneiss around, which from what I gathered, is created by metamorphic banding between felsic and mafic minerals. Think it should cover the spectrum of mineral needs. Of course it’s just conjecture and I would need to research more on the specific origins of the minerals. I do know that they were deposited by the Laurentide ice sheet, picked up within the northeastern US/Canada so it shouldn’t be hard to at least get a rough idea of the composition/origins.
At this point with the few I have, not sure if I’d be willing to go for it just yet.

Pupping, looks like it was damaged by spider mites or something at one point.

Solo, these are nine months from seed. Still in the same loose growing medium, less water is key with these desert cacti. These seedlings are stretching a bit with the winter sun, still growing well though.

Looks like L. diffusa, from what I’ve researched.

I’m using a method from Precious-cactus, …have some 4 month olds that are doing well with this approach, nice and plump. I am in the process of slowly acclimating them to less humidity (adding more fae holes often)and will transplant them to a more appropriate soil soon.
I know for sure that it was my errors that killed so many seedlings. It sucks but what can I do. Just gonna keep plugging along .
Those are gorgeous by the way.

I will call him Fluffy

It’s like a double entendre, because he’s in a cauldron and has three heads like Fluffy the three headed dog in Harry Potter, and hopefully one day he will be very fluffy.

(Fixed the subject)
I would like to submit these photos for the community’s identification. They are the parents of my seedlings. -I do have the permission of the owner to post these, as they are curious as well. Thank you all so much in advance!

I'm not sure how large lophophora are at 2 years old but I usually stress my seedlings (all cacti) early on to low humidity and full sun. At first they are quite slow and small but I feel that they catch up or even surpass a 'babied' cactus.
This is 11 month old seedlings removed from high humidity after 1 month

This is 20 month old seedlings slightly larger than a quarter.
