san pedro mastery on youtube is really awesome too!! i followed his methods for cactus seedling germination & had great success. sterilized the soil in my PC & never had any mold issues keeping them in high humidity for a bit, but i did slowly harden them off after the first month or two he has a lot of simplified stuff on cactus cultivation in general & a lot of stuff on lophs. heβs pretty succinct with his info & also sells seeds!
will have to check out your YT as well, shaman (:

Yea sanpedro mastery has a pretty good basics guide...
Again many things come down to your climate and preferences. My full sun exposure is different from say Australia or high desert full sun. I also suffer from losses of seedlings and don't try to limit losses... if they die they die. I don't want to have to baby my cacti since they should be very hardy and resilient.

I'll be doing a larger experiment later in the year with controls on year old seedlings to see growth rate/maturity. I'll also likely cut the own root lopho that has exposed taproot even if it doesn't flower this year. These were on tiny grafts but can't really extrapulate much information from this since I didn't leave one as a control to see the differences.

In a similar vein, any books on the topic would be great.
Iβve been trying to pick up a physical copy of Troutβs Notes but theyβre going for like $200 online for some reason.
look on google books a lot of the time you can read a good amount of a book for free via PDF or via their book portal.
i know its not a real copy but at least you can check it out

I didn't even know there was physical copies of Trout's notes around. All his work is free in PDF format on his site though... https://troutsnotes.com/trouts-notes-library/
Shaman Australis has a good amount of cactus info, idk how active it is these days... https://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/
This site and nexus both have quite a bit of good cactus info too.
I honestly don't have any books to recommend, most probably have outdated/wrong info compared what you'll find online.

South Texas seed (Jim Hogg county) sown six months ago. Growing outside on a windowsill in full sunlight. Starting to finally get some nice shape to them.

Itβs not cactus specific, and a bit on the pricey side, but Christian RΓ₯tschβs Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants is a real nice book to have around. The write ups on the major species are pretty thorough.

For those who grow indoors with lights, do you let your lophs go dormant during the winter or do you run the light year round?

I'm no expert , I've let my lights go yearround without dormancy

Zoom in at the base of the flower!! I was manually selfing P2F6 and I found these two little beauties just beginning to poke through the fuzz. First fruit on this plant, second & third ever personally. Still donβt know which flowers were successfully pollinated. I suspect these may have been F2 and F3 for this pant which were both manually selfed in October. But thereβs a possibility that one of them was F4, and participated in the pollen swap free for all orgy where all three plants had flowered at the same time and all got crossed with one another indiscriminately.

yes actually!! itβs been 10 days since i grafted so iβll be taking the seran wrap off & introducing to light soon. the root base i tried to graft didnβt take (not that i expected much) so i just cut it off & grafted one of my other seedlings last night. but the initial top cutting graft seems to have taken quite nicely! at work rn but iβll shoot ya a pic later. also, should have that houseplant thread going soon! life got in the way a bit but iβll be posting pics later

Cool man, be super careful unwrapping. My first few times I definitely knocked healthy but not-quite-attached scions off more than once.
