so I’ve noticed lot’s of fungus gnat flyers flying around the lights after watering and sticking around for a couple days afterwards (i’ve gotten about 20 on a yellow sticky trap) but not in or around the substrate which is 100% minerals/rocks/limestone. The soil stays wet for like a day or two max as i use clay pots and have a very fast draining sub and stays dry for 2-3 weeks, so i’m not overly concerned about the fungus gnats as they’ll die off from dry conditions. BUT i did find a ROOT APHID flyer around the guys as well and I am deff concerned about those..now looking back to when i transplanted I remember some roots had a white chalky/webby (almost looks like mycelium) material on them which is starting to make me think I have a minor infestation...do you guys recommend anything to control root aphids? I usually water every water with diluted h202. I was thinking of trying botaniguard 22wp which is a mycoinsecticide.....
tldr...think i may have root aphids need some pesticide suggestions

fuckkk I think you’re right ..I water all my lophs together in the same tray so they share each other's runoff which according to the articles makes them spread...great lol..looks like I gotta get on top of this asap as these guys are all healthy and nice....thank you so much!!

Do you just use straight up Cacti potting soil? Still don't understand what's best because I see some people's soil like yours but other people just use more granular mediums like minerals and rocks

I use a certain mix just for lophs/cactus that grow in northern mexico/south texas which I got on ebay..the particular mix is a couple pages back if you’re interested..all minerals/limestone/rocks no organic materials

IME, the more organics, the higher chance of rot.

I started originally with my own custom rock mix. In the end I went back to promix cactus soil. No rock or any additives, sometimes extra perlite and some gaia green organic mixed in. I find they grow well both ways. Never killed one anyways. It is believed lophophora grew near today's Colorado area in rich rocky soils. ( Got that from keeper trout. )

Food grade Diatomaceous earth works wonders. Just sprinkle a bit over the top of the soil and wait.

Here’s a quick update on the plants. They love the new dirt and couldn’t be happier.

Here are some better pictures, after a summer outside they couldn’t be happier. I finally got a graft to take and it’s getting huge. I’m hoping I can cut it off and get it to root, the last one I did never rooted and shriveled up. Sorry if this is viewed as a “double post” these pictures are the most recent and I really want to share them with you guys. I have 100 Fricii seeds and 300 Williamsii seeds I want to start soon, I’ll keep you all updated on that as well. Thanks

Imo, we all should love our cacti a little more.
Like the man Luther Burbank did.
Go ahead and do a google search on his name. Then, you can choose to believe it or not but he proof is all there..
He convinced cacti to grow spineless with his consciousness and the power of LOVE.
He even sells them, and wrote a book!
This is just for the few who don’t follow the tricho thread, not everyone grows columnar cacti. So please forgive my double post. Thank you
Many blessings to you all

D.E. all the way. Cheap, easy to use. Just dont breathe it in. Can soak soil in it (d.e. water solution) before potting up, can bottle spray contaminations, can crop dust with it, can mix through soil etc
Can also use 3% hydrogen peroxide, 15ml to 500ml water (preferably distilled).

Haven't been here in a long while, but here's what will sadly be the last update for my graft haha. Lasted for around 6 years on San Pedro after starting with a quarter sized button before the scion rotted completely before I noticed, with it spreading to the graft. No idea where any of the seeds I had went, so I'm gonna have to start from scratch once I get my new seeds in the mail.

Hi All-- I planted these seeds on 9/11. Calling them my patriot peyotes. How do you guys think they look? Any advice? A couple guys have fallen over! I'm relying on millennia of evolution to assume they will be OK and eventually right themselves

Good job getting this far. They look good, just give them more light though, the seem to be etiolated slightly. In regards to the ones that tipped over, what I do is wait until they get a little bigger, like maybe 3 weeks or so and gently place them up right and they seem to be okay. Just tip them to the upright position and pile up a little dirt around them to help stabilize them. Other than them needing a little more light I’d say you’re well on your way to raising some happy plants.

What a pleasant surprise! Looks like my pollination attempt was successful can’t wait to get seeds!!!
I recently noticed that the skin’s going darker around the base, does anybody know what this is? It can’t be rot as it’s in a terracotta pot/100% mineral mix and is watered with diluted h202 every water.
I was also thinking about applying a cold pressed neem oil/dish soap soil drench..just to knock down any potential root crawlers..is this safe for lophs? would it smother the roots?
