I don't know what "have they already taken ?" means. They look quite dry, yes. Perhaps the humidity is too low?

yup, by taking i mean successfully attached, you should keep the humidity >80% , also, both plants must be actively growing when going to graft

Aha, I see. A few of them, I think I messed up with the attachment. I can kind of see a gap underneth a few of them, so I guess those ones are bound to die. Hopefully next time, I'll learn from these mistakes. Thanks

It would be pretty funny if you could bet on graft success :')
Also I wonder if it would be cool to have a grafting thread or not - I guess the question is: does grafting different species (though mostly lophs and trichs) have more differences or commonalities?
Props on the newborn grafting. Supposedly it is more difficult than waiting a couple months but there are also reasons I can think of why it might be easier, less dependent on vascular ring alignment or better to fix on there without saran wrap / other ways to keep the pressure on...
What confused me earlier was how it could be both easy and hard, but after more tries I would say it isn't that hard to actually do but it does demand that you don't forget to adhere to some rules, especially with peres. It can seem unreasonably hard if you do forget / don't know.

I don't understand the word hard in this context of peres grafting
I just strike them with a dull knife and lop the seedlings on, what are these vascular rings you are describing?
In all seriousness what went wrong? Especially my lopho grafts been taking without fail, only E. pachanoi stalls a lot for me..i suspect that having to do with bacterial infection
@Micaele don't worry about gaps thats normal. The connection is only small and all tissue around it keeps growing, so it may tilt untill it has encapsulated peres

I found an box of seeds today that i totally forgot i have. They are probably 3-4 years old and was stored in paper envelopes. I guess probably a few will still be viable.
This was in the L.W goodie bag i found: about 25 seeds L.W. var. Caespitosa about 30 seeds L.Jourdania. 6 seeds L.W. "Magdalena" 5 seeds L.W. "Quatrocinegas" 4 seeds marked just L.W. 12 seeds L.W "Icamole" from my own plant. This one marked 2013-10-03, i hope thay arent this old all of them, but maybee. And, 5 seeds L.W. from my own plant.
Lucky day, i think im going to do some cactus seed sowing this weekend. I hope they arent too old or dry, some vill germinate i think.

I have some old L.w. "v. pentagona" seeds I should try sprouting. Supposedly they stay at 5 ribs for a lot longer than regular ones.

Quick question to you experienced loph growers. do you think a 50:50 aged chicken manure/perlite mixture would be appropriate for peyote?
As of late I have been using this mixture with other cacti(mostly the more resilient columnar like trichocerus and myrtillocactus). The results have been highly encouraging, with generous flowerings from my mamillaria, and huge growth spurts from the columnar.
however this is quite a rich medium so I thought I might get some more opinions before using it on my lophs.
If this is an inappropriate mixture I would appreciate some advice as far as high nutrient mixtures you guys might use. also any advice as far as sand and rocks(size and type) would be much appreciated.
I don't like using cacti fertilizer. cheers.

Sounds far too rich to me. I use mineral only mixes for lophs. Trichs and lophs need different mixes as they are from very different climates. Trichs grow in mountainous regions with a fair amount of rain, love nitrogen, and can tolerate a higher soil nutrient content. Lophs are from arid desert land that rarely sees water and lives in poor nutrient content soil/sand.
I use a desert sand, crushed lava rock, perlite, and crushed limestone mixture.

Check out this 3 month old loph seedling on the right it is forming two real defined heads. It doesn't really look like any dichotomous seedlings I have seen before. What do you guys think? Has anyone seen this before?

Hard to see it clearly but it looks as though it's pupping from the first areoles they usually get after germination. I can't see the middle well enough to see if it terminated itself, or it was damaged some how. I'd say it will form Two stems and either stall, letting One develop, or both will grow as normal.
is all I can suggest at this stage.

Sand, crushed limestone, perlite or pumice and a little coco coir mix. Anyone with suggested ratios or a proven recipe? Thanks!

I asked a similar questions about my trichs in the trich grower forum, but do I need to worry about a low dip of 30° for one night?? It hasn't been a thing since I started growing lophs a few years ago
