Whilst some sites claim L. jourdaniana won't cross with any other loph I came across this just now
Quote:
Sacramental and Medicinal Cacti said : The inability of L. jourdaniana to be fertilized by others in the genus has not withstood scientific rigor as it has been crossed with both L. diffusa and L. williamsii by the Russian botanist Serge Batov.

all you got to do is cross pollinate them and wait. unless your some type of geneticist in which case anything is possible.

Ya but I guess it's not very often a success. It was believed for a while jourds didn't seed and were all rooted offsets.
It will be interesting to see that one flowering.

one main thing that caught my attention about jourds is the "persistant spines" as young'ns.
i have grafted a plant that offset profusely and all of them have spines as little graftlings. i will have to wait and see what color the flowers are, then make an assesment.
is there any truth to lophophora jourdania being the offsrping of lophophora williamsii X turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus?
i have heard something like that. i forget where though.

I've always thought it was a cultivar of L. williamsii and L. fricii but I don't think it is really known for sure. I do know it is a cultivar that was discovered in cultivation.

8-10 years on the first two, and unsure on the last one, it was acquired hard grown. Lovely roots on it and a very squat body.

These are about 10 years old, started from seed. The largest is about the size of a dime. Should they be bigger? How.. Look healthy? I know that these are lophophora williamsii...but what variety? How can I get them to bloom? BTW. Theses are my friend's, he lives in Canada.

They're a little small for 10 years but they're healthy so I wouldn't stress. They look as though they may of been damaged in the past too so that could of checked their growth some. By the looks of them they will bloom in a few more years and you will know when they're mature because they will form wool in the centre before doing so.
@Mostly_Harmless: That's a beauty indeed!

that is an exceptional specimen, mostly_harmless. 8-10 years sounds about right. my lophs are the same age as my son; four years old. that is a true lovely.

they look very healthy but i tdoubt the age at being 10 years old. your friend must be wrong.
as to what variety it is, who knows. ask your buddy if he get any locale information on those seeds. then you should kinda have a guess as to the variety.
visit www.lophophora.info for pictures of wild specimens.

I have some loph seeds I wish to germ and have a soil mix ready. In CactusDan's tek, it mentions microwave sterilization. How long and on what power level ought I do this at? It's in a microwave-safe pyrex bowl so it's all kewl there.

i use fertilome's systemic fungicide.
people might say that this will decrease germination rates but i have not seen too much of a difference between oven baked soil and soil with fungicide.

I would guess around 10 years or so. I'm hoping to get some flowers and fruits off it soon.
