I repotted them they were quite thirsty in the coarse gravel so I moved them to loamier soil and planted the baby buttons with them

hey thx
i keep em in there while she flowers 12/12 1kW hps at 50% dim

metal halide is ideal for vegetative growth and cacti but because she is flowering she needs the reds in the light spec :smile2:

Hell ya, I was gonna do the same but I thought the HPS might be bad for cacti?

Would 1000w HPS  be too much for a mature loph?

Round these parts we usually go the other way, out of loam and into rock!

Well they love full sun, but the limited spectrum might not be ideal long term.

Well yeah, full sun when u can...

But when u can't...

I'm gonna try 1000w during last part of the day.

Cfl or t5 w blue light during morning..

I'm also gonna try a 150w hps with a Cfl or t5 with blue light bulb.

On any days when the sun is bright enough and warm enough they'll go outside

Should I be worried about this little spot on my cacti, guys?

It appeared sometime during the last six months.

It hasn't changed noticeably in the several weeks since I first saw it.

Should I start making animal sacrifices or should I not even be worried about it?

I was thinking about grafting some of the smaller pups on this one to my bridgesii so
I can slow the bridgesii growth down for a few years until I am in a better situation
when I can get the bridgesii outdoors and in full light.

I've never grafted before. I know people do baby seedling size ones and stuff but are
these small onesgoing to be too hard for my first try? I don't really want to cut of
any of the mainbuttons, really just wanna try grafting these little pups.

A touch of rust fungus. Not usually fatal. What humidity are they kept in?
A dusting of cinnamon or sulphur can be used to prevent spread, along with dryness and sunlight.

Seedlings are best grafted to pereskiopsis, it can be tricky to get a new sprout successfully on to a column, easiest to use pereskiopsis as an intermediate step. Some of those buttons will be large enough though. Choose buttons that will fit well to the selected column stock.

Thanks man.

I think I will put a little cinnamon on there.

I haven't watered in a few weeks so I will hold water for a while longer.

Most who grow don't have the luxury. Which is very sad. I have a friend in another zone that totally gave up on cacti because his climate does not allow it. We are so lucky fly.

I haven´t always lived here, ferrel - and have grown cacti successfully in various places, including as far north as Scotland.  I have always given them as much daylight as possible - even cloudy days produce more lumens than expensive artificial light.
But sure, I get the best results I have ever had in my Mediterranean climate.

That's true brother. I forget. You seem wise beyond your years. Too bad I am closed minded. I have never left the rio grande valley of South Texas. I have never grown anywhwre else and would never dare do so. But I'm sure I could do it. I wonder how Alaska fares. :hmm:

And of course that is the ONLY good reason for growing an adult plant - cactus or cannabis - under lights.  Cos they are ILLEGAL and you need to keep them hidden.  So glad I live in liberal, tolerant, sunny Spain.  But should the UK (and I am British) vote to leave the EU in the referendum in June, I don´t know how long this happy state of affairs will continue.
