Oh good heavens - thanks Fuzz-nutter. Totally obvious now - I was in the Royal Navy and of course all submarines have a RO plant.

Awesome input everyone
The most likely culprit of the orange spots may very well be high humidty. It does get rather humid in the basement some days when I am making up trays.. pastureizing coir in my drum on those days raises humidty to 50 percent until I'm all done pasteurizing the coco and drain the 55gal drum...
High humidty causeing the orange spots was in the back of my mind.. I've watched the orange spots closely, they don't seem to ne mites. I cannot detect any movement. Also there is another loph and pereskiopsis and few other cacti that aren't showing any similar orange spots.
So I'd guess that, thus particular phenotypic expression of loph is possibly sensitive to high humidity. More so than the other loph I have. I have two diff varietys. One is very fuzzy and wooly with larger hairy buttons. The other has smaller hairy buttons. I can post exact variety names is anyone would like.
I might start using water that's been left out to evap the chlorine and bromine out of it. There is still chloramine in it tho which is ammonia and bleach reacted together to form a chlorine compound that doesn't evap outta the water...
I'm aware ro water has had the micro elements sipped out of it... all good input here which I'll be remembering ty all
And yes, by RO water, I mean reverse osmosis. It's all the hype lol... jk.

I have read that vitamin C tablets will get rid of chloramine. No hands on experience of that though, haven't got that additive here yet.

Hey Thays good info ty
I'm gonna look into that
I was recently made aware that RO water isn't the best for the fact that micro elements are stripped in the process
Humic acid is a good additive for this I think according to my research. I'm gonna add it my next run... just started growing...
But yeah I'm Def gonna consider NOT using ro water or using a good micro nute formula..
Hey, when indoors does a screen to shade the lophs help? As u might do to shade them from the afternoon sun when outdoors in a green house? ?

I'm new to growing lophs (williamsii) and just sowed some seeds. I've got them on a heat mat, about a week in and two have sprouted. I have the pots covered by plastic wrap to keep the humidity up, and a temperature probe poked through into the soil to monitor temps.
The temps have ranged from 27c to 33c, are these temps okay for growing loph seedlings?

Those temps are absolutely fine for sprouting seeds. Once you think they have stopped germinating I would keep the upper temp below about 30oC. Good luck with them.

Well as much as I love my little tic tac sized willys, im considering ordering some bigger ones in from overseas. The vendor wants $25 extra for the phytosanitary certificate. I believe by law in Canada one is supposed to have such a document, I'm just wondering from others who have shipped/recieved foreign plants if you got one or if you think it's worthwhile?

I have sent very many Lophophora williamsii to the US over the last 15 years. This species is, however, illegal there, and the possession of a phytosanitary certificate won´t change that fact, so I just send them anyway. One package once got intercepted a few years ago, but since then dozens more of my plants have become US residents.
You really need to ask yourself how thorough are Canadian customs. I suppose no customs authority can open every package that passes through. I feel (just a personal feeling, might be wrong)that US customs are more interested in opening packages from Holland that may contain cannabis seeds, and packets from Spain just get nodded through.

I think you are probably right that they direct more attention to packages from certain countries. The only package I have had opened by Canada Customs was some suspicious looking powder (gibberellic acid) that someone in Mexico sent me. They taped it back up and sent it on its way so I assume they tested it and gave it the OK, but I don't doubt that the country of origin may have been a big part of the reason that they chose to open that particular package.

Hmm ok. In that case coming from Thailand it is probably worth the cost of the certificate to protect my investment as I imagine that is a bit of a red flag country. Thanks.

The one time I ordered from Thailand it made it through without a certificate I am fairly sure..
I live in a pretty lax state when it comes to peyote laws though
Also I know the Thailand seller I used will 're ship out things that don't make it past customs.

But the point of entry into the US may well not be in your state.

Really? I saw one of their write ups from their ads that said that it's the risk/responsibility of the buyer. Good to know that they are a little more lenient.
I'm really digging grafting. This loph/peres graft (middle one) is growing faster than the loph/peres seedlings. Should I be concerned about the black spots around the edge of the trich on the right graft? I shouldn't have kept them in a humidity dome for a day after graft. woops. For the middle one, It's easily tripled in size in one month

Pretty sure that is a different seller, I have seen some that have that policy towards shipments so I was surprised to see one offering a replacement.

Your trich grafts are amazing fuzz-nuter. As long as it's not humid anymore I think your trich will be OK. It will dry.
Can't wait for my trichs to wake up and for my trich cuttings to root to do a ridiculous amount of loph/trich grafts taking the scions from my loph/peres grafts
Here's my only loph/trich graft. I think it's 3 months old. Might be a bit less. It's a pity that I don't have enough light indoors to supply full power to my stocks.
