Hello just randomly stumbled on this post! I've been thinking about this cactus for years. I felt the mushrooms were calling me since I was young and first heard about them. It was a journey for me for sure. I also feel as though this cacti would suit me well. I know people grow them and it takes a few years. I don't have the stability now to grow it. Once I own a house I plan to. Is it legal to grow at home? I'm planning on moving to Texas later this year so that works out. Maybe my life subconsciously revolves around drugs because I ended up in the PNW on a whim now I'm headed down to Cactus country. I know they're almost endangered I plan to treat them with respect. I've read about people hunting them in TX and Mexico under the Native American church. I would like to hunt them when I get down there just enough for 2 doses for my girl and I. Just wondering if anybody here has hunted them and any tips? Thanks

You should just buy some san pedro online instead of taking some from nature.
Same with peyote, and if you do harvest make sure to leave the roots so that it lives and makes new peyote in its place. (Not that you didn't know but I figured it wouldn't hurt to say this)

Dude don't poach plants. Also, i just took a trip to big bend (got lots of pics for you guys, just need to organize a post!) to take pics of cacti in habitat. Lophs were not found and i looked freaking hard. I found all kinds of ariocarpus though!
If you want a plant, order one online or order seeds and get into grafting. If you want to trip, buy a trich.

Oh that's awesome thanks I didnt even know about the San Pedro cactus does that one get you just as high, I'd like to grow them later. I would leave the roots for sure though. It's not like I'd be poaching a shit load I mean those guys with the permits for the church probably take more than someone like me would

Im sorry, I understand and I agree with that but why would it be wrong if you left the roots? Or planted seeds as well to replace them? Is it because it's becoming an endangered species? It would be a spiritual journey for me from start to finish. I would probably go to Real de catorce to start if I didn't do it in Texas. Why should I not be able to do what they did for years. Just because a bunch of disrespectful people overharvested why should it ruin it for the rest who respect the plant. I don't think that's fair, all due respect. These entheogens and psychedelics are truly spiritual for me.

It's not as it easy as they may make it seem to find this genus out in thw wild in texas. Take it from a person who has worked out in the oilfield. I have personally been out in the most remote of ranches out in the oilfield. And me being curious about this cactus has led me to venture outside my drilling pad.
With that being said going to Mexico to experience a 'trip' is just a waste of time and money. Literally a waste. Not because you won't find what you want but because it's so easy to go on an adventure with a more suitable cactus like say a San pedro or thw more reliable and consistent trichocereus bridgesii.
So I tell you this. Go ahead and start peyote from seed and tell me that you wait 5 to ten years to experience a wonderful visionary question and then you see your babies and your like should I eat these?
No one was disrespectful in harvesting. It's a commercial thing for the ones who harvest and sell to the NAC. I say you should start with them and join and go through the whole ritual if you that's what you really want. Too much time if your not totally invested in it.
Just go to ebay and buy a trichocereus. Way cheaper and way easier to obtain alkaloids or buy a peyote from a Thai vendor and consume that. As long as the whole root has been left alone you should be able to regenerate the cactus.

Buy some bridgesii or P torch and or a peyote graft to clone.
A healthy trich can grow at least a foot a year and if it's potent you may only need 6" to a foot for a decent experience. That means one plant could provide a trip a year under the right conditions.
With peyote like ferrel said you are looking at years just for a single experience...

My seed grown lophs are only a little over 2 months and even though this is the reason I initially started growing them, I already know I won't be able to eat them.

I'll never consume any of mine either.
The only way I would even consume a Trich is if I was in need of help and had some spiritual questions I needed answered.

I am now intending to consume some of mine this year - this is why I am not going to sell any more for the moment but am consolidating my resources (OK spaceman?!) - it is something on my bucket list.

Yeah I should've started growing it when I first heard about it they'd be ready by now but your probably right. I'll probably get some from online then go with the church in Texas, do you have to be Native American to be in the church tho?

I would figure you'd have to be able to track back to some Native genetics to be allowed in.

These two are three years old, there were like 20 of them two years ago, but the cat got to them

Any guesses as to which species these are? I bought the variety pack of seeds because it was much cheaper per seed. I think the big one is Williamsii but I'm not sure about this little one. Also they germinated within a week of each other but there is quite the disparity between them. Thanks in advance I'm really curious about them.
