Just some cheapo potting mix with "feeds for 6 months!" written on it, walmart special.
2 of my caespitosa started getting some brown colour in the crevices. Afraid that I might have over watered I pulled them out. They were very wet. I thought that since I brow room was hot as fuck, the rocky soil would dry quickly. I think I was wrong. Will be watching them very closely, after they get about 2-3 days out of their soil to dry.
lesson learnt
I've also noticed with my loph seedlings that whenever a piece of perlite is touching it, red rot shows up there first. I'll be removing perlite from the top half inch of soil so that no flesh is touching any more

In my grow room it get's hot as fuck because of a dozen flos, fan, 1000 watt bulb, ballast. Anyway I thought that because of the heat, the soil would dry out quicker, the way my other plants do. But I think I over watered. I pulled them out to dry. When I pulled out one, it was very damp, more then I thought it was. I'm concerned that it had not even dried between watering.

Haven't posted many pictures of him yet but this is my man Frank, purchased from a dude named frank. Unrelated.
I wasn't the best caretaker at first, not giving him enough water or too much water or something, he got super soft and wrinkly, not great. After some better care he's plumped back up and is looking ok (or so I thought, after reading through and seeing everyone else's mine is super green and plump, not natural looking at all) definitely better than it was.
Soon he will go into a terracotta pot with some stones. Right now he's just in a sieved cactus mix/coir/perlite mixture, definitely not ideal.

Looks good but watch that soil. Make sure it dries out completely before watering. Looks like it could hold a good bit of water.

Not the best mix IMO especially for such a small plant.

I attempted 2 variegated loph grafts recently and both seem to have taken! Just moved em out of a humidty chamber to a nearby spot with better lighting:

Sorry for the bad pics they are both pretty small and very light Here is my first and only successful loph graft so far:
 They are all caespitosa

Can someone p[lease give me some info on what's up with this peyote graft please.
Ferrel I asked you but you never replied so I hope we're cool enough now for you to let me know what you think along with anyone else that has an Idea.

This Is the same double header that I posted a while ago and it's putting out a third head and the first middle Head looks to either be cresting or putting out yet another head.

What kind of loph graft is it? A caespitosa?
My vote is on crested as the center looks pretty abnormal to me.

It's a simple Loph willy.
I'm really hoping for a crest but my luck is never that good

Looks like an inermis crest. Still an awesome find.

For a willy it sure is pupping a ton! Maybe its from being grafted but that thing seems to have some amazing genetics

It's definitely a crest. No doubt about that. A true crest? Hardly. Great find nonetheless. And I mean 'true crest' because a crest that never changes shape. 'Inermis' seem to pup and crest in a pattern right next to each other. If that makes sense.

I only water once the soil has been completely dry for a few days. There's actually cactus soil underneath the top layer. I just recently transplanted that (there's a pereskiopsis stem buried under all that) and all I had handy was seed starting mix. I'm actually going to cut the top off and graft it to a bridgesii soon, and hope that the rest pups like crazy. Only half of the loph is above soil level, and the other half that's buried looks like it wants to turn into a taproot. There are at least 10 areoles on the buried part, so I want it to mainly be a rootstock that cranks out pups.

Interesting. Can't say I knew that, thanks for sharing. Does the same thing apply to monstros cacti?

Thanks for giving it a look Guys and I think you're right in the inermis crest
I'm figuring that crest will form into another head but I'm unsure.
This plant came from my last Loph grow will the last of the seeds I had.
This plant in particular looked different in seedling (I think it was a yellow seedling and grew slowly) so I grafted it and it has done all of this through the winter inside

Wow. I really thought it was a growth pattern. Like head, no head, head, no head. Like that.
