or cut off a good amount and let it callous over and plant it in some dry Sandy gritty soil until new roots form.

Is the callous soft on the parts with mould? They can often be prone to opportunistic surface growths that don't really cause a problem.

The mold ain't the main issue here as far as I can see.
He either needs to root it of graft the pups IMO.

Doesnt look too serious. Id dry it more in front of a fan. As fucked up as this sounds i would fuck with those and open them up. Then put a fan to it.

I actually just took off whatever that was off the loph entirely. Just did it nice and slowly and slowly pulled it away, didnt use a knife and didnt touch any flesh. I got the piece off without tearing into the lophs flesh too much. I put more rooting powder on it and set it in front of a fan

Thank you to everyone who recommended cutting out the rust rot, and recommending to reduce watering
Look how pretty it has grown past the cuts. In another month it won't even be visible

It's crazy fire m to me that about a month ago I basically cut out two entire sections, and it filled back in. I guess every plant does this but cool to see it in a seeing loph

I tried a little experiment for the fun of ur. I wanted to see how far you could push Pereskiopsis, how much a small plant could add to the scion.
So what I did was first graft the loph onto the peres, and about two weeks after I cut it, leaving one leaf, and one bottom node. I then stuck it on soil just like that, no hormone or anything. I buried it to the scion so that all you can see was the loph and a little leaf sticking out from the dirt.
I think it worked! It's ahead of the root grown plants, about the same amount of growth as the peres grafts.

The root has started and I feel it should grow very well once the roots are established.
I wanted to do this to find out if you could graft, then degraft and still get the same growth rate with only a tiny piece of peres

Size kind of matters but it's really the superior root system of pereskiopsis that makes them grow faster than ones on their own roots. I like to do hidden peres grafts like you've done.
An example:

Instinct tells me they need a transplanting, I like to give my cacti's roots room in their pots. Don't put them in too big of a pot, though, for water retention's sake

Friggin´ hundreds !!!
I put my Lophs in Long Tom pots - deep for their diameter - to accommodate the deep tap root.

When Is spot on with his Lophs but I don't really think he grafts. He really needs to move his Trichs outside though in some true sun
Those pots will do fine for now

I hear u when u say those pots are fine...
I'm wondering how come user "when" has lophs that appear to be the same size as mine but he has then in much bigger pots..??
The pots my lophs are in, are about the same size as the lophs themselves...?
Doesn't seem to me like they have much room to grow???

The less soil you have to soak the less risk of rot.
Always plant Lophs in Terra Cotta pots.

They're huge because they're old. I forgot how old he said they were but I think it's between 15-20 years. He doesn't graft them and has had them under lights the whole time from what I understand.
