My new loph pales in comparison to the one above but it still deserves a mention so here it is:

It's 4.5cm in diameter.

I just made a greenhouse for my lophs out of some painters plastic and a few pieces of wood I had lying around. I used a long piece of wood for a cross bar and two shorter pieces as posts and then I layed the plastic across it and stapled it on with a staple gun. I then held the plastic taught with some bricks. It looks like a tent and works like a charm and the whole thing cost me about five bucks. Keeps my lophs on my watering schedule.

Thanks. I can see why people find them so addictive, they're quirky little plants.

My single loph suffered a few scratches from the cat (DAMN CATS!) a few weeks back and seemed to recover alright, but it has some discoloration in a few spots and I'm unsure why.

they are a darker shade of green than the rest of the plant, just looking for some input here. Thanks guys.

Ah alrighty, I just have worried new parent syndrome and anything out of the ordinary makes me fret
edit: Also he is getting a little squishy, indicating being thirsty, but I watered him maybe two weeks ago and don't want to over water. Is it a bad thing to remain squishy like this for several weeks or is it yelling at me for a drink?

If it is squishy and you have not watered for two weeks then go ahead and water it. Every two weeks is pretty standard for indoor watering. If you water it and it remains squishy for the next week or so you may have a bigger problem such as root rot, but I am no expert. Ferrel where you at?

I wouldn't say there is any standard timeline for watering cacti considering many of us live in different climates. Being soft can be a sign of underwatering or overwatering ime so I would be careful about any watering choices and at least observe closely so you know a little better about what happened in the case of rot. Usually if a cactus feels soft and I haven't cared for it for very long I will leave it be without water and it will firm back up on its own but I live in the PNW where it is wet out for most of the year.
