First off I agree and apologized (and apologize again) when I posted the photo. Secondly, that was that cameras excuse for a macro mode and the white balance sucks on it. It's a turd, but the only thing I could get my hands on. That substrate is mostly sand with a pinch or two (almost literally) of organic matter. It got injured a while back so perhaps that may be a factor. Aiflow will be increased and fungicides will regularly be applied. Thanks ferrel, Mostly Harmless, Karode, and all of Shroomery for all your help.

Here's some of my lophs. I'll start with the williamsii.

Here's my diffusa.

A couple of shots of a koehresii.

The two fricii, one with a small pup.

Some two year olds from seed.

And one last picture for the hell of it.

Your "koehresii" strikes me as more of williamsii.
Lovely plants none-the-less!

It might not be a koehresii, it is a lot different than my other williamsiis though. I'll take a picture of its flower next time, they're always kind of deformed and ugly compared to the other plants' flowers. And thanks for the kind words Dan and Ferrel.

L. koehresii tends to have more wavy ribs and hardly ever puts off offsets as far as I've seen.
Their flowers are very similar to L. williamsii, but usually the pedals are much thinner and are self-sterile.
The stem also tends to be more green than that gray-blue.

Awesome and diverse collection of lophophora! These seem to be raised up and the soil seems really moist which led me to think that these might be grafted to opuntia stock or something like that.
My little lophophora decipiens seedlings are just growing their very first spines as I type this. The fricii and koehresii are close behind them. It is a good feeling to see them grow.

not a good feeling, a great feeling.
that is why when i lose one to rot it actually hurts so bad i want to cry. literally.
to see one grow so big and to take care of it for four years, it just makes me

not just great it feels like I can't stop adoring the little blobs of lophs and day dreaming about how they will look when they grow more.

@ cypher: They're not grafted, that's just how i plant them I guess, and they've been loving water as it's been so hot lately. I'm glad to see that you found those seeds and you've already got some plants!

Yes well I was very glad to know that I can get a few loph species from a us vendor. I love that I will have these great cactus to enjoy for many many years to come so long as I can give them my best attention and love.
Does anybody know the average age for lophs before they succumb to death by old age? I'm hoping that I can keep these babies around for 50+ years and pass them to my children when I die.

I don't have an exact age that Lophophora are known to live to but they can outlive us human beings if cared for properly. There's a lot of old lophs about that have been handed down to younger growers once the original owners have passed on and then of course there's the wild ones that have probably been there for a hundred years plus.

While some things like Ariocarpus and Astrophytum have been known to up and die under cultivation, I have never heard of this being mentioned with Lophophora, thus I'd say that they could live an extremely long time.

Wasn't it due to rot though?
Arios and astros will just die for an unexplained reason, not rot involved.

I meant to put NO* rot involved.
But yeah, they'll just inexplicably whither away.
