a stupid question but is lophophora jourdaniana self-fertile?
that would be excellent if it were.

No, and apparently even with two plants it's apparently quite difficult to get to set seed.

thats odd. when i got seeds from *******************, they were all Lophophora williamsii. supposedly.
and that one, and i'm sure others, turned out to be jourds.
and i got diffusas, williamsiis, fricii, and koheresiis.
most diffusa's i traded becuase that subdivision i did not like too much.
stupid me.
but now i have many different types. and most certain different locales.
i even have decipiens.
i still ordered more decipiens seed and fricii seed to have more for breeding.

Jourds retain their spines into adulthood though and tend to stay small and caespitose.

exactly how these are.

the last one you can't tell too well but it has spines on it. its def. a jourd for sure.
once it flowers it will reveal its true self.

I don't think so, they also tend to be a lot greener.

That's what all the ones I have seen look like.
Spines persisting on grafts (of most Loph species) is common until they start to get their mature tufts.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, just telling you I've seen ones personally and they are a minature species.
The main head is usually no more than 2cm or 1in.
Yours are grafted to Trichos, when many of the ones I've seen would barely be wide enough to fit well on the vascular ring of a nice thick trich.
The price for L. jourdaniana seed is usually double if not more that of regular williamsii, and it would be an incredibly poor business venture to give out seeds that are not easily obtained.
That'd be like throwing in an aztekium in a pot of mammillarias, and pricing like they were all easily obtained mamms.
It just isn't very feasible.
The fact remains that MOST Lophophora species when grafted retain their adolescent spines for a while.
And the color, ribs, and general appearance of yours just don't match up to that of L. jourdaniana.

Here's a new Lophophora williamsii I managed to pick up yesterday. It's four years old and 3.8cm across or just about two inches.
A little scarred but nothing a bit of TLC wont fix.

Thanks man. I got it through the Aussie Ethno grapevine. They are legal here in all states but one that being Queensland where all mescaline containing plants are illegal, even the pedro's.

Mine have been fine with direct sun this year, probably 6+ hours across midday/afternoon. I'm sure they will be happy either way!

mine did GREAT in full midday sun in the Israeli summer, i'm sure yours will do just fine getting some sun in the UK you don't need to worry, the worst that can happen is it will get a little darker or even have a little burned skin, but if you're worried just keep an eye on it, for now i suggest you take that thing off and let the loph be a loph
/edit that is unless you're trying to root it, in that case i can understand why you'd want it protected?
