Does anyone have pics of the roots of a loph that's 20+ yrs old? I've only seen smaller ones, and a search didn't turn up anything.
I love their little taproot, it's so cool

not so little after 20 years. sorry i don't have anything but i'll interject these 2 here.
it flowered while i was away and i did not not pollinate it. i hope the bugs help me out here.

my caespitosa. i think the stock has died and is now growing on its own roots. the last time i transplanted this one the stock was crunchy but the top was fine. i bet it threw out some roots and is now a plant and not a graft,.

This is 25-30 years old, see the 3rd Head forming - started this growing season - so stoked!
This is my other pride and joy.

For the sake of interest and experimentation I did an upside graft and got somekind of cristate freak. Tried to strike it on it's own roots but failed. It did flower on graft though. Check out this mentalness.
Basically after grafting the peyote onto some stock, I thought what the hell and grafted the taproot onto stock, here's what happened:

This was just after it 'burst' There was definetly something going on as things looked healthy 'as they could be'.

A while later.

In flower. Pity I couldn't strike it, even though some kind of pseudo-cristrate it would have been an interesting plant.

old photos of mine from almost a year ago i'd say... since then i've spread seeds around the pots and have have 8 more babies all naturally sprouted and toughing it out there...
i have more recent photos but i'd have to edit them and now is not the time... maybe soon,
so here they are..

and this one is the latest update i have of my first loph (won it a few years ago via the FSRE 5 year celebration contest which was held here on the shroomery) it was unfortunately left in the care of my mother back in Israel

This thread always delivers...
@Jackal: That is one of the coolest grafts I've seen in while.
Nice lophs Simisu.
@projectzero: That's a nice specimen and I think it's an old williamsii although my id's of lophs have been a bit off lately so don't quote me on that.

indeed this thread delivers, thanks for the comments it motivated me to go get some better photos!
so this one is from today

and these are from a couple of weeks ago when they were flowering (still didn't put out fruit yet) and i just repotted them. from the oldest one i removed two seedlings and repotted those but one died for some obscure reason leaving a perfectly round hole in the soil... they really liked finally being able to go out after this wet wet wet winter!
here it is after repotting

and this is the first time the younger one flowers...

and bueno, my zen garden wolly sheep plant and mushroom seeds (zen garden i the base of my mango sapling pot)

i'm looking for something interesting to put in there instead of the sheep but for now i kinda like it like that
my balcony is mostly composed of plants i've pinched and rooted, each plant has it's own story, lots of little details that only i enjoy
i'm really eager to start toying with grafting but unfortunatly i don't have any rootstock, and since i'm waiting to find it and unwilling to buy it it's starting to bug me... i see a lot of potential for those lophs!!!

dude the older those babies get the more beautiful they are.
but only if they look natural. not like those japanese cultivars that look like damn balls of fur. i really dislike those.

i'm all for the natural way, but lets face it if you ever want to commune with peyote (which i do) you need to be grafting and working it... i'm just starting though, i only bought these three because i couldn't believe they were so cheep (they cost me 5 euro the three of them and came with all those seeds on them ) so i've been throwing the seeds here and there and looking out for them, someday i hope to start grafting but i'll probably keep some seedlings the natural way and we'll see how they turn out in 15 years. i'm on the lookout for grafting stock now!

dude i got a bunch of grafts although i hear that mesc content is not the same.
i have enough buttons for a trip someday but i won't do that. hallucinations scare the bajeezus outta me.
maybe in a controlled setting with someone else. but that will never happen cause i don't know anyboddy to trip with.
i got some lophophora fricii and lophophora decipiens seedlings that i want for breeding. many flowes this year but no seeds as of yet.

Havent posted all of mine for a while so here it goes:
My favorite atm. Not quite sure on the species yet since it hasn't flowered this year, but the teal with ashy tufts is so pretty!
A decipiens, this one has really grown in well to, a lovely soft teal stem with tan wool.
My baby L. jourdaniana

This was sold as L. fricii, but I have a suspicion it's L. diffus, we'll see if it flowers this year.
This is an L. fricii, but got hit hard by some bugs earlier in the season. Luckily it's starting to grow and should be looking nicer by fall.

L. williamsii, probably 10-15yo. Measures ~5.5cm and has three pups.
L. williamsii. I was sure this thing was gonna die when I got it, but it has survived and started to grow!

more and more jealous i get. damn dan you got quite an extensive loph grow going. thats a very good thing considering the status of it in the wild.
i got lophophora jourdania grafts growing very well now. i did not know the exact type of it but now i know it is because that button you got is so similar to mine.

...persistent spines as younglings...
orsomething along the lines of that.
i have about 5 of the grafts. i can't wait til it flowers.
it will be
